The Mandalorian

It was mentioned in the news that people are reporting errors. First day rollout in US. I'm sure they'll have it sorted soon.

Yeah, we went with the original Star Wars while we wait for it to become available LOL

Logged in without issue. Got in on the 3 year deal at $3.99 a month. I can't help myself when it comes to Star Wars and the wife loves the old Disney stuff. Currently watching Rogue One in UHD.

Just got done watching the first EP. l Liked it! This show has a ton of potential. Production value is extremely high, it was like watching one of the movies.

No issues logging in and watching here. First episode was pretty darn good. When Jon Favreau geeks out on something, it’s usually a good thing.

It was a nice start.

I see a lot of the original Star Wars Samurai/Western in space motifs coming. AKA Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance?

Hopefully the bounty hunters won't be teenage girls, like the leader of the bandits/pirates in the Han Solo movie.

But Disney is just like the rest of Hollyweird, so I'm sure they'll sneak a shemale in there at some point.

Didn't watch the animated series, REBELS, did you?
Sabine was the Mandalorian on their crew and she came from a clan that was heavily run by the women. Still a good series.

Strong start! I enjoyed it.

Pretty good... Short episodes. Probably wait and binge it.

Total run time for the season will be about 320 minutes give or take. I think it will be interesting when its all done to watch it as a continuous film.

The Mandalorian: yes.

Disney+: no.

Sorry, but I'm through with paying more and more money for more and more subscription services just for entertainment purposes.

If it's not available on what I already have, I'll either do without or wait until it comes out on DVD.

I love Star Trek... but I'm not paying for CBS All Access to see it.

I love Marvel and Star Wars... but I'm not paying for Disney+ to see them.

Not even at discount specials.

I have Netflix, which gives me all kinds of entertainment options... and then along comes Disney with "We're canceling our shows on Netflix and moving our stuff to Disney+. Pay us some money to watch them now!"

Nope. Have a good time, not for me, sorry.

Problem is all the other entities have gotten savvy to Netflix's ways and are stripping their material from them. Netflix has reacted appropriately by creating original content, but you'll get less and less classic content. Go try to find a good movie that you want to watch on Netflix--ain't gonna happen. Some weird British baking or tiny house show? Sure: there are five different flavors!

I completely understand not wanting to pay anymore I’m the same way. I’m only watching because I have a free trial, as soon as that trial is over I’ll be waiting for the rest of the series to come out on DVD as well.

That is why you need a decent pool of friends and relatives. Each person takes a service. Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime etc... and shares. :) The reality is that this is the way it is going. The traditional networks are surviving on live events like sports, local news and handful of major shows.

Netflix showed it can work. They were really the only game in town for a while. Now that other people are getting into the game the Netflix catalog is shrinking. It was inevitable. Everyone used to complain about the "cable bundle" or the "satellite bundle" and how they wanted ala carte. Well that is what streaming services are moving toward. Themed or contained universe content exclusively on their platform. In the end to get it all it will be just as expensive. Cord cutting does not save money unless you want to give up a huge chunk of content.

No piracy involved in sharing accounts. The streaming services know you are doing it. For example Disney+ allows 4 logins at any given time. Netflix has acknowledged that they are able to track the account usage via your IP address. Amazon knows and allows you to share your Prime Video as well.

No if you are talking about the peer to peer sights with stolen downloadable content that is another issue IMHO.

Well, sh*t.

The joys of being married.

After all I posted above, I just went through this with my wife.

Anybody want to guess the end result?

Just got done watching part 2. Was pretty entertaining and since I have a fire stick it’s free!

Anyone know if it will be available to buy on iTunes?
I don’t want to get Disney+ for this one show...
I don’t know if it will—odds are probably yes. But I’m betting it’ll be $25. For that money, you can buy 4 months of Disney+ and see a lot more than one show. Granted, you won’t own it, but you’ll get a little more bang.

Wait till the entire season is available, then do the free trial and watch h them all. It’s only going to be 3 or 4 hours total.

I’m definitely digging this, it very much seems like a Western set in the Star Wars universe and not a traditional Star Wars story (not that I have any issues with Star Wars).

Verzion giving us a free year of Disney+ was clutch too. We’ll end up paying for it because of the kids.

Not sure I would "pay" for Disney+, as the content is limited... a few hundred movies, and stuff, but not near the thousands and thousands on Netflix, or even Hulu. However free for a year with Verizon unlimited data (which is actually about the cheapest way to go) We will be watching.

Content can be downloaded on up to 8 different devices, and content can be streamed to 4 different devices at anytime.

Incorrect. At least as of right now. All of the stream providers are month to month. You're not locked into a contract like with traditional cable. A lot of people signed up for HBO Go when Game of Thrones came on and cancelled when the season ended. Same with Netflix and Stranger Things or whatever show from a streaming provider. I would assume what some will do is wait until all episodes of a show are available, for instance the Mandalorian, sign up for Disney + for one month a $6.99 then cancel when they have watched them. You do not have to sign up for all of these streaming services and keep them every month. Some recent articles I've read stated the cord cutting does not save and may cost more than cable. Digging down these articles were backed by cable companies. One thing all of these include is the price of internet. What they do not state is that people had internet even when they were paying for cable. I do not include the price of internet for this same reason. I had it when I had DirecTV and I still have it now. Only want local information? Other than the initial cost of the antenna local channels are free. I get over 50 channels. My wife likes Hallmark and I like Discovery. Philo is $20 for 56 channels. Pluto, Tubi TV, IMDB Tv, Sony Crackle are all free. Got to have ESPN during football season? Sling TV is $25/month. Cancel after the season. You can't do that with traditional cable unless your contract has expired. Someone mentioned that Disney + is free for a year for people with Verizon Unlimited plan. Anyone who bought a new apple product recently gets Apple Tv free for a year. Other streaming alternatives:

Frndly tv. 12 channels including 3 Hallmark Channels and the Weather Channel. Cheapest place to get Hallmark if your wife has to have it.

Vidgo. $14.99/month for 50 channels.
https://www.vidgo.com/

Philo. $20/month for 58 channels.

Then there is YouTubeTV, FUboTV, etc. Playstation Vue WAS awesome as you could connect up to 5 devices but it is shutting down in January. The good thing about all of these are you can cancel any time.

Everyones situation will be different. I can't get local channels via an antenna. Just not an option for me. Plus I would have no DVR capability which is important due to my watching habits. I have Directv out of contract. I pay a heavily discounted rate because I call them every 6 months give or take and ask for a better rate or I am going to quit. I got a subsidized rate for 2 years and I am getting about the same rate now. I also go NFL Sunday ticket this year at no cost. ZERO With all of the streaming service you are giving up something. You can save money but you are constantly turning on and off your services to achieve that savings. This works for some but does not work for everyone. You my not have DVR type services or on demand watching abilities for live or scheduled programming. Yes you might save some money but at the end of the day that is because you are getting less services. That is my point which I think your analysis confirms.

Star Wars was a Samauri inspired Western set in space. The cross over between Spaghetti Westerns and Samari films is well documented. Both greatly influenced the entire Star Wars Universe.

I thought the second episode was meh. Baby Yoda is a force boss. Check. Other than that, it made the Mandalorian out to be kind of a bitch. Got whooped the whole episode and then caves and trades for his stolen parts back with no repercussions to the Jawas, does the work montage to rebuild it, and flys away. The whole episode is him getting robbed and being punked...

Loving this show, and Disney + overall.
I’m always a sucker for Star Wars but I hated the last 2 films like a lot of fans. This show is a lot of fun.

They’ve got all the shows I watched growing up. Will be able to nostalgia binge for a while.
