The New Hudson H9

Thanks for that explanation.

I've never handled or shot a 1911 but I bought a S&W 639 from a member and immediately noticed significantly less muzzle flip than with any of my plastic guns. I chalked that up to the gun's weight (much heavier than anything else I own).

Im thinkin this might be the way to go.

Dang it, I may have to sell my SAO Legion to buy one.

They had one for a grand at Fuquay Gun today. I got to handle it. I might have to have one. Wonder who's making holsters for it?

Gunbelt is if you want a leather holster. I really like mine.

Leather pancake?

I thought I saw something upthread about a newer version of the Hudson. Have they changed something?

Any word as to when the H9A will become available? I'm not as interested in the lighter weight as I am the new sights.

I want this gun to succeed, but am concerned about factory support.

The website is a recent offshoot of another popular 1911 website that was, surprise! - sold to a media company, so the posters don't have many posts at the new place.

Umm so they didn't answer when the guy called.

Sounds like the guy needs to get over himself.

Hudson CS for suggestions and help in finding "out what was blocking the reassembly. NO response. no one answered the phone, returned my calls or emails and they had time left in the workday"

If you read the rest of the thread you would see he received a response I believe yesterday, after trying to reach them since middle of last week if I read correctly, when I started following that thread.

I realize that this gun is being manufactured by "one of our own", and hesitated posting the link here because of this exact reaction, nevertheless, I would have been distressed to purchase a $1000 gun and not been advised here in this community of other known on-line discussions regarding potential issues with the gun and/or customer service.

I don't know anything about the people or the company so my view is unbiased. He posted his complaints Thursday so let's say he called and emailed Wednesday afternoon. He received a response this morning with an apology for IT issues. it would appear they responded in 3 and 1/2 business days.

I get it... the guy is mad he bought a gun that he doesn't like and is having problems with it. To say that customer service is suffering because a company took 3 1/2 business days to respond seems unfair.

Perhaps. Just for the record, I have been keenly interested in that gun since Chad first posted about it over a year ago, and I commented periodically about it here, as well as followed what few discussions I found on other sites that I frequent.

I've also had some discussions with the OP of that thread over at 1911fanatics on other topics so it's not like he is an entirely unknown quantity to me. Like I said, I realized that posting that link might strike some folks wrong. My intent to share that info here was not cavalier, nor intended to be incendiary, but simply due to my own concern.

Sometimes we find, or post, good news here, sometimes it's otherwise.
Edit: To that end, and in retrospect, I slightly edited my post above to appear less inflammatory regarding customer service, because it certainly wasn't my intent.

I appreciate your intent in posting it, brother. That is a lot of coin to plunk down and I would like to read people’s good and bad experiences before making my decision. Hudson was fast in responding to my inquiries. Doesn’t mean they always have their ducks in a row.

I shot one of Chad’s H9s. It was hard to shoot accurately until it spent some time with it. The gun has a different feel than any other pistol I have shot. Dealing with the “looseness” of the trigger was part of learning the gun. Once I “got” it, the gun was very accurate.

I also found it hit way low with lighter bullets, but point of aim matched point of impact with 147 grain bullets. At least at one time, Hudson told people the guns were sighted for 147s and ran best with them.

Based on my experience with Chad’s H9, the OP in that thread comes off as more whiny than anything else, not having put much effort into figuring out how to shoot the pistol well. I could be wrong, but that is how I took it, having at least as much range time with the pistol as he did.

None of this means I am absolving Hudson of any real issues they have. Every company can turn out a stinker and every employee can have a bad day responding to customer complaints. Just my two cents.

Bought one of these pistols, love it, absolutely love it. I didn’t have any issues putting mine back together after field strip and cleaning, don’t know what guys issue on that 1911 forum was, I would guess he is not very mechanically inclined.

An issue I have seen with this new pistol is that many people hate it simply because they perceive it as a polymer pistol trying to be a 1911, or a 1911 trying to be a polymer pistol. Purists from both camps seem the most critical of it and it’s performance.

As far as customer service on it goes, I would hope that anyone purchasing a brand new market offering from a brand new small private company would imagine that it may take them some time to personally respond. I highly doubt they have more than a couple of people tasked with returning phone calls and all it takes is a server crash or a bad cold to put things behind.

I agree with your first part of this. However, an upstart company should do everything possible to establish excellent customer service right out of the box. Unfavorable reviews from unhappy customers can and will be hard to overcome.

Nice try at deflecting attention away from the jumper cables. ;)

Oh, there is no disagreement on what they should be doing at all. I just think the expectations of "good customer service" vary between people.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with my wife the other day, I placed an order last Thursday morning with Outdoor Limited for some ammo at 9am, got a shipping notice at 10am, and the next day it was on my doorstop by 11am. 27 hours from submit order to possession. I am not as old as some, but I remember growing up and seeing "6-8 weeks for shipping and handling" when ordering things. So getting something within a calendar day is absolutely amazing to me. So, in regards to Customer Service, the bar has been set where people expect/demand getting a response within a very short period of time. 3.5 days doesn't appear too extreme to me for a new and small company. Could it be better? Sure, but I wouldn't hold it against them. But you add the newness of the product and the butthurt level some people get, then any excuse to complain can be made a mountain from a mole hill.

Moving on from my proverbial turd in the punchbowl...

Is anybody hearing anything about the second generation version with alloy frame, and different sights?
I personally think I'd prefer the heavier steel version.

I like mine so much I am seriously considering purchasing the alloy framed one to go with the steel framed one when they are available. I’ve seen some internet pictures of a threaded barrel version as well. I can’t imagine how flat this thing would shoot suppressed! :D

A threaded barrel version would push me over the edge - well, once I recover from the money pit the new-to-us house has become.

I’m not sure I like you at the moment.

The only one I saw at the show this weekend was $1199.

Ive seen some bad reviews on YouTube and such. That's keep me away for the time being. I'm still interested, very interested. This could be the perfect carry gun if the reliability is there.

You tube is full of morons who wouldn’t know a good gun if they got shot with one. Don’t let the naysayers get to you, get ahold of one and shoot it, I would bet you will fall in love. I know I did. :)

One guys mag kept falling out. Several people had other ftf, fte issues and multiple customer service complaints.

If one lands in my LGS I'm taking it home.

The problem I have with internet/youtube gurus is every single firearm created to date has been plagued by at least a few lemons. Back when I worked in restaurants there was a saying, "Please one customer, they will tell two or three people. Displease one customer and they will tell everyone." I find that holds true with firearms as well.

Considering how new it is to the market and the generally positive reception from everyone I really respect when it comes to firearms, I find it a winner. A bit too spendy for me, but I wouldn't turn one down.

I will say at first it is really tight, like a nice custom 1911, and you really have to seat the magazines, but after a few mags mine settled right in. :)
