The New "What Did You Do to Prep Today" thread

Survived a trip to PA and back in 72 hours. Realized I need tonrepack my bag for missing stuff... (note to self make a dang log book)

We may as well have one of these here now

I picked up a couple more cases of MRES today making my total about 50 cases. Working tonight because were expecting a little ice. Later today after I get off, Im gonna go through my GHB and reorganize it and make a couple changes.
50 cases!!!!!? If the SHTF, you're gonna eat, but you may not crap for a year!!!! Talk about leaving rest rings on a turd!!!!!

Picked up 2 of the sog shovels, and 5 el cheapo rauncho survival knives with fire starters included in the sheath, Amazon had them on sell, they can be for personal use or barter material, the knives were three bucks and change a piece.IMG_20170828_232235209.jpg

Ha. Got right at 100 cases now. That was my goal. I've got a good supply of fiber also. Just for that reason. My goal was to have enough for 1 meal per person for a year if things got bad. I've got other food put up as well. The MRES are kind of a back up

I spent 30 years trying not to eat them! I lost 16 pounds at Ft Erwin , CA one year in the desert. I hated those things!

I got in when they were just coming out! The Hockkey Puck aka The Dehydrated Pork Patty would fix your guts up! Chicken ala king was another looser as well as the breakfast omelet. Ham slices and frankfurters were the best!

Wouldn't you be better off storing something like Mountain House dehydrated food? It has a virtually unlimited shelf life unlike an MRE.

maybe, but as new as the MRES I have are, and for the amount of money I have in them, I'll stick to them for now.

Today...

Put my Concept2 rower in the classifieds cause I'm prepping for the day I have $800 less dollars than I do right now. [emoji31]

Dumped the water we had in the large tote, been a couple years and it had a off taste last year when we had to use it after Matthew.
Moved it a little closer to the house and rebuilt the base it had been sitting on too.
Cleaned a new tote I picked up that had mole asses in it, plan to stack it on the other and use it for drinking and cooking, if needed.

Where do you store such stuff?

I've found that I'm running out of room in my house, in spare closets & such.
Thought about storing stuff in my crawl space, but wasn't really sure how to go about that...whether stuff would be ok or not...

Depends on how tightly sealed your crawl space is. Can varmits get in, is it damp, has it flooded in there before, is it easy to move stuff in and out to rotate stock, can it be locked?

I'm in Clayton and my house sits on a bit of high land.
Not great, but the crawl space doesn't flood or get very wet except in the area right around the entrance.

Can varmints get in?
Uh, yea maybe?

The vents don't seem to have enough space or whatever to let mice or the such in...

IDK really...

If you're getting ANY moisture in there don't store foodstuffs there. The containers with draw moisture and rot/mold. This could spread upstairs and make you sick or could stick to food containers and do the same.

Grabbed some water bricks today. I'v got some bottled water and some frozen gallon jugs in a freezer, but water is one area I am really lacking. With these I should have enough for bad storm duty if things go wrong. I'll likely fill the tubs on Sunday if the forecast looks bad. We have three tubs so I am thinking of having one or two covered for drinking and the other(s) for cleaning.

Grabbed a small med kit, Israeli bandage and a Sawyer mini for my Ruger 10/22 takedown bag I've been working on. The Copper Basin allows so much more space for some extra non-gun stuff. Hopefully I can make it a decent get home bag for my trunk.

If I use a polymer drum to store water, is one sheet of plywood underneath enough separation from the concrete floor in my garage to prevent leaching?

I fill all three of my tubs before bad storms to use for the toilet's. We are on a community well where we live now no water no flush's.

OK, I'm taking it easy today after a very hectic week at work. For those that don't know, I work in the home medical business and we have 800+ patients on home oxygen. The threat of Hurricane Irma dominated our week. It was long hours, non-stop phone calls, people coming by the office to get back-up O2 cylinders, people evacuating, people staying. It was non-stop, but we got it done and got everyone taken care of.

So this morning I decided to load up some more magazines. I loaded up several more AR magazines and Glock 17 and 18 magazines.

Gotta fire up my little craftsman generator just in case we lose power tomorrow. It hasn't be started in over a year so it'll likely take a carb cleaning and some coaxing.
I am not too concerned being north of CLT but we'll see.

My mom gave me the generator a little over a year ago and stated it had been run every few weeks to keep things fresh.
Well, yeah... The gas was terribly varnished, had to clean the steel tank, had to clean the carb, and the oil was plain disgusting. After taking care of those items, it fired right up. Doubt I'll need it but it's nice to know that I have it just in case.

Sort of a prep. Bought these at WM for $12 for both and they came with Duracell batteries. The headlight is rated for 100L on high and 45L on low. The flashlight is rated at 300L. Tried both out tonight and I was very surprised. The headlight is very bright and easy to see with on low. The flashlight is very bright. I could clearly see the old horse barn 50yds from the house. Also put the flashlight under running water for a min or so just to see and no leaks and still working. For $12 I'm very happy.

My everyday beater light is the 200L model . It’s been well beat up and I haven’t broke it yet

trying to get back in shape after the Holidays. gained 4 pounds.
for the last 6 days, i've walked two miles with 50 pushups and
50 situps. my plan is to increase the 50/50 to 100/100.

I bought this yesterday. Can it be considered prepping? Lol.

Well, could be anti-prepping if you didn't pay cash and have all the basics down. But could also be for family time and a huge lifestyle bonus, plus a possible prep advantage. Only you really know. But at the least it could lower your blod pressure and up your bourbon intake.
