The Primer on Primers

When the six shooters gun show came to town a couple weeks ago. They had 5, cci 100 primer boxes. $11 ea. That's all, 5.
I got all 5.
Early bird gets the primers.
Well, I guess good for you? 11 cents each isn't to bad when your out.

They seem to be readily available again around $80 per k.

I admit I will be in the same boat when my stash runs out. I have boxes from just a few years ago I paid 2-3 cents each for. $4.99 per 100 was highway robbery not long ago.

It is interesting how loaded ammo is falling back to reality but components are still insane...

Due to inheriting a couple thousand Small pistol magnum primers as well as 500 berry's bullets in .380 I've been using them in 9mm handloads with no issues.

100 grain .380 bullet over 4gr of bullseye with a small pistol magnum primer has been a reliable 9mm target load. I don't have a chronograph, but they feel slightly softer shooting than Winchester whitebox 9mm when shot back to back in a Sig P320 fullsize.

I paid 25/K for most of my primers and remember not too long ago not being willing to pay 32/K at a local place because I thought that was ridiculous at the time.

Those 32/K days are over for good. They may drop a little, but nothing close to what they were just four years ago. I am well set on pistol and rifle primers for the rest of my life. Shot primers not so much. Was able to snag 5/K at $56/k and thought I got a good deal. Boy have times changed.

I'm set within reason here as well. I quit loading for 9mm and 223 which will absolutely draw out how long it'll be before I ever need primers. I mostly reload now where it matters, ie 500SW, 44 mag, precision rifle cartridges, etc. I can buy 9mm cheaper than I can reload it.
