The Spiders

Seen them around here too. Oldest girl freaked out when she walked up on a wolf spider in the living room the other evening.

Funny, Ive killed about half a dozen in my driveway over the past two days
Good to see it isnt just me ha

I've had a handful of the big fat ones I call the weight lifter spiders. Kind of brown and yellow. Bug spray doesn't phase them. Either have to crush them or use wasp spray.

typically I respect the spiders and leave their webs alone but...….. when you admire the big guys and leave them be and then end up with their web wrapped around your face...….
the spider on my face dance is always funny to watch, but..... its a painful thing to perform it with 2 fractured vertebrae....luckily I move too slow right now...…

now my wife... lol

Orbs are cool.. got a bunch on my windows...

The Wolfs are trying to get in the door with 1000's of babies on their backs.. .just a Red Silo Cup with the bottom cut off so you can trap them and spray them.

The Black Widow Bitches are growing from hatching for the spring and are trying to find their corners... spray them like I am laying napalm on the NVA

The Reclose's are friggin everywhere.. the bastards....

Years ago an old buddy had some itty bitty revolver that shot 22 shorts.
He'd take out the lead-head of the bullet, and stuff the shell full of wax instead.
He lived in this old house, like 1903, and it had these tall 12 foot ceilings. That made it about impossible to get at the bugs and flies since they'd escape up high in the ceiling.
So he'd load up that little revolver with those wax bullets, and shoot the bugs.
Even though it worked excellent, I'm not endorsing such a reckless method of handling firearms.

I’m just glad I got my bushhogging done early this year on my hunting properties. It’s bad enough late summer to see every size/shape/color spider crawling on the tractor hood or (my favorite) hanging from the canopy and sneak attacking.....

I usually pick up the wolfs and toss them out the back door, but all the others get smooshed. And I'm talking about if I catch them indoors.

Outdoors, with the exception of black widders, they are left alone.

JoCo did some aerial spraying last night. I was hoping to find piles of mosquitos and spiders on the driveway but no such luck.

It sounded like we were being strafed by a Piper Cub last night.

I have a few of those roach motels behind the furniture, tv stand, etc, they trap a lot of spiders and multi legged insects.

We’ve had them out the wazoo at our house. Put some more treatments in the yard and around the doorways and windows yesterday. I can’t kill them fast enough. We are being overrun, and might have to call broken arrow.

I regularly spray around the house with Ortho Home Defense. I guess it seems to work well. I definitely get spiders in the garage. But rarely see them in the house, or any other bugs.

We used to dump out 22 ratshot and refill it with grits for shooting carpenter bees.

I leave spiders alone. Kill all of 'em and you get a different problem.

While running down squirrels this morning. Evil looking bastard. Easily bigger than a quarter.

I own a Pest Control company and have over 36 years of personal experience. If I can ever help anybody with advice, just let me know. I don’t know everything about pests, but I know a little. I’ve heard a lot of the old wives tales too and can pretty much tell you what works and what doesn’t.

I’m not soliciting for customers here! Just offering to help if I can.

What in the name of Satan-Meets-Darth-Maul is that?!

I am generally not afeared o' spideys, but that - admittedly spectacular-looking - thing gives me the creeps.

That is really cool, and probably harmless.

I had a picture of one of these on my phone for a couple years. Every so often, I would send it to my daughter just to get a reaction.

She hates a spider.

That’s a Marbled Orb Weaver. Pretty - a few feet away! LOL
Thanks!

I think it's the bold colors that freak me out a tad. Like I said, it's a spectacular critter... but something that small, wearing those colors? Not trying to blend in with the background to ambush its food? That's braggin'! What's it got up its sleeve(s)???

I ain't callin' his bluff. :D

I reluctantly set my rifle down to get close enough for the picture and that was it. I left it alone. It wasn't bothering me, no need to kill it. Plus, mosquitoes were terrible, I liked spiders that morning.

I don't know the exact species, but it appears to be one of the many orb weavers that lives in southern woods. There's a brown spider that has a virtually identical body to that spider, that I've always heard called "frost spiders" because they come out in late fall.

Most orb weavers are harmless. They're just here to eat the bugs.

Still, no fun walking into one in the woods at O-dark thirty in the morning.
