This about sums up the BS going on here lately. If the parents (that have one ounce of common sense) of their kids don't start grabbing them up and shaking the shit out of them then it will continue. If the grandparents of their kids and grandkids don't pick both of them up and shake the shit out of them there ain't no hope.

"Well its not our fault that we failed to educate your kids"

Sad thing is the state denied them the ability to take charge in the classroom. They were able to manage for over100 years, why can't they do it now?

There should be a friggin revolt over this.

Agreed, it's called HOME SCHOOL if you can in any way afford and have the disciple to do so.
It may seem like a sacrifice at the time, it isn't.
It's great as far as education goes but it doesn't do a thing as far as readying a child for proper social interaction.

I used to hear that criticism frequently when we were homeschooling our boys. I told them to pick one of the boys, a topic, then engage them in conversation. Part of a proper education is learning how to socially engage.
We purposely had a home where kids wanted to be, their4 cousins were next door, they were on baseball, football teams, and had friends over all the time, etc.

Thats fine but would you say that you are the rule or the exception?

My wife IS an exception, bright, driven, high standards, and an empath. We also believe raising our sons for a successful life was our primary job.
We saw the good and the bad families. There were parents that 'homeschooled' and did nothing, and it pissed us off seeing the kids neglected intellectually & socially left behind. We got involved with some of them and taught them to read, etc.
There were others that suffered under the 'Oedipal Mother'. Those boys typically ended up weak and effeminate. More info on that.

We also interacted with other families that did a great job. My sons all decided they want to homeschool due to their experience as well.

As the parent of a kid that graduated high school earlier this year, I can say without a doubt that I'd be homeschooling if I had a younger child in school nowadays. There are many support groups on the local level for homeschool kids that didn't exist many years ago, so social interaction isn't an issue if you don't want it to be.

As far as "Social Interaction", since when in span of human history did we decide that peer-based socialization in groups largely comprised of a narrow age cohort was somehow "best"? It's a big world of "socialization" out there outside the walls of a Public School. Home Schoolers get that.

In fact, some of the most miserable people I know spend their entire lives trying to figure out why the "skills" that got them to the top of the "Social" heap in high school don't work very well in real life.

Neal Boortz used to frequently comment when he was on tour how easy it was to spot the home schooled kids. They know how to engage adults, and look you in the eye.

House Paid For..Cars Paid For...Don't Drink...Don't Gamble.....F&#@ You.

Goodman played that scene as good as anything in his career....We Agree.

Have y’all actually met kids? “Social interaction” is really just teaching kids to deal with the truck loads of BS and drama people seem to thrive on.

I told my (grown) children many years ago that they were the last generation in the family line to be "educated" in government indoctrination centers. All subsequent generations would be properly schooled at home with Grandpa and I choosing curriculum. I guess that is why I don't now and likely will not be blessed with grandchildren.

It's because she's racist; she wants them to be dumb.

So...

If they're not going to teach the kids, or be held accountable that the kids aren't being taught, or hold the kids accountable for failing to learn, then why bother making education mandatory? There's no longer any incentive for the teachers to teach or the kids to learn. Seems like they could save a pile of cash by defunding the school system.

Maybe schools just exist to hand out tax payer funded free lunches these days?

Okay, it is sad that a lover of children won't be a Grandma. The true story is they all made their own life/career choices that did not include children. I accept that. The two older ones are much too old to start families now. I am holding out hope that the youngest and his bride will reconsider at some point in the "not too distant" future. If they don't, I will be fine with their decision.

I just need to find some friends that need a "surrogate Grandma" to help out.

This argument against homeschooling is so worn out, as if all the kids in government run schools turn out perfectly normal and function in society just fine.
