Ha.
Or we saved them from the sharks only to have them for dinner.
These ones didn't fit in the fish cooler because it was full of tuna already.
Iced these down too. Under a towel.

17 tuna and 1 mahi.
One small tuna to the captain as a tip.
The rest weighted in at 670 pounds.

In honor of fishguzty’s haul we’re having sweet potato crusted mahi mahi tonight. First time trying this so prayer’s for my wife. I’ve got leftover pizza in the fridge just in case.

I've had tuna that fresh before, absolutely amazing. Fish was still moving while I ate a section raw like a Popsicle.

lovingly slurping?

WHICH section?

Side (flank?) , it was at Yaohan Plaza in London. When I was but a young weeb we used to go there to play Japanese only release arcade games, buy anime and strike out trying to pick up Japanese girls with our mad Japanese language skills.

They had a bunch of food court places but what you'd find in Japan rather than London. Some really good food too, since they served the large Japanese expatriot community. My lifelong love of tonkatsu started there.

One day we wandered in and it was the first day of some tuna festival and they had the biggest fish I've ever seen pinned with knives to a mostly vertical cutting board the size of a shed, still trying to get away while two of the chefs from one of the sushi places briskly turned him into tuna fillet popsicles and a waitress handed them out to passers by.

It was raw and so fresh it reminded me of blood and "strong" water more than anything else. Amazingly tender considering the poor sod was being filetted alive. I'd never eaten anything that was that close to alive before. Interesting sensation.

I went one better a few years later on a survival camp trip and ate the flanks out of a live trout while still squatting in the river because it was the first food I'd managed to catch in several days.

My former boss was supposed to go with us but he had a motorcycle crash. A few broken ribs but otherwise okay. But he couldn't make it. Being the nice guy that I am, my wife and I made a side trip to being him some of the tuna. Can't let a wreck keep him from enjoying some.

Good job!

I am sure he appreciated it!

I used to go out on "The Hooker", they were first rate.
But I haven't been out in four years or so.

Oregon Inlet fishing center.
Boat: Fintastic.
If you are going to book a trip, that is the one you want.

Can you PM me the captain’s contact information and add the cost?

Edit: I found the website for the one in NC. I would like to make that trip soon if I can find some others willing to go.

Cool. Captain Dick is awesome.
Boat fee is around $2k. Plus about $500 cash tip for the mate.

All yellow, except that bull mahi?

What's the limit these days? Last time I was out we were only allowed 10 of and tuna species.

10 Per person. But we came back in after filling the fish box and 3 that didn't fit in the box. The fish box won't fit 50 tuna. [emoji6][emoji4][emoji16][emoji38][emoji28][emoji1787]
Headed in more than an hour early.

Nice. We took 10 yellow and 1 big eye last time out, plus a few bull mahi. Took 317# of steaks home... Nothing better... Been too long. I envy you...

Actually, both Fed and State regulations put the bag limit at 3 per person.

10 for Mahi.
Our 2006 trip we got 51 mahi, 2 tuna and a wahoo.
2012, 17 tuna, a wahoo, and released 3 sailfish.
2020, 17 tuna, bigger than 2012, and one Mahi.
