So I'm flirting with the idea of selling my truck. It is in need of another round of body work and I just don't think I have the heart (or the money) to do it again. It is a mid 80's GM product, so rust is just a way of life. Unfortunately, I don't have a garage or carport, so it just sits out in the rain.

So while it does have rust on some rockers and around one wheel well, it's still a solid truck. The frame is rust free, the engine is strong, and it has a factory re-manufactured transmission with 20,000 miles on it. Plus the interior is in fantastic shape.

It is an early 1988 with a 350 small block and a 700r4 trans. 170,000 mile on the odometer.

So I'm posting this to see if you guys can help me put a value on this thing. Prices for C10's have gone crazy lately, but I'm really not sure where my old Suburban would end up.

I'll post some pics, but let me know if you need to see more or need additional information.

Thanks guys!

market seems to be all over the place on these. i’ve seen everything from 1-10K.

what’s the total mileage on the truck?

it seems like once you’re over 200K the prices drop.

5-7 would seem realistic to me.

That would be a tough pill for me to swallow since I’ve never paid more than 2 grand for one. but i’m cheap

Crap, just added that into the original post. Thanks.

It is an early 1988 with a small block and a 700r4 transmission.

That's a nice package. I would love to have it but I doubt it's in the cards for me right now.

These seem to be hard to price lately and it really depends on who is looking.

That truck will outlast the garbage rolling out of detroit/mexico today.

The truck will, but you might not if you're in an accident and you die because it's got no airbags.

Don't sell it, you can rebuild it 3x for the price of a new 'burb

This thing doesn't really compare to a new Suburban in any way except wheelbase and passenger capacity. This is a toy. And a sweet looking one too. But it's not a replacement for a brand new vehicle.

@AD43576 , in more ways than usual the rule about pricing applies: something is worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it. You may find somebody willing to pay $8000 for this, but you'll have to run through a huge number of cheapskates offering you $2000.

Well you do have a delima, nice as the interior is the rust in the body kills the value big time. I don't think you will get very much money from anybody that's looking for a square nose Chevy. I'd cut bait and let it go for a song just to get it out of the way, jmho.

True on all accounts, different strokes I suppose. I enjoy older vehicles (actually prefer them) and lack of airbags doesn't bother me.

I'd expect to get somewhere between $3500-4500. Start at $5-5500 would be my suggestion.

Yep, you couldn't give me a new diesel, I'll keep my 03 f350 and keep trucking. No def, no aftertrearment, and will still get better mpg towing then the stuff on the market right now. Newer does not always equal better.
My father in law has a 2019 burn(fully loaded), and as soon ad it is out of warranty we are removing the cylinder delete crap. Its causing the valve seals to leak, not a lot but more then I would like, about a quart between changes, 2 different gm dealers said that was "in spec" for usage.
Done get me wrong new things come out and some time they are an improvement, but that's not always the case.

Thanks for all of the advice and guidance guys. The decision to sell was not an easy one to make, but I think it's the right thing to do. It's time for this beast to be someone else's project! I'll try to remember to update the thread once I get around to listing it.

Thanks again.

OK, looks like I'm going to be the one to say this, then.

'bout tree-fiddy.

:D:D:D

Seriously, if the prices are all over the place, take a step back and ask yourself "What would I pay for this if I were interested?"

There are those who are all for squeezing the last nickle out of a deal. But any deal really breaks down to something that the buyer and the seller are both happy with.

What others may think is a moot point.

Sounds like you've long since gotten your money's worth out of this, and you don't owe anything on it either.

You also aren't in a tight spot where you NEED to sell the vehicle for something... is just become "time to retire Old Faithful".

So, pick something that feels "fair" to you, based on the condition, maybe some others on the market, and what you might be willing to pay yourself.

Then pad that a little bit to give you "haggling room", like maybe $500 - $750 or so. If dropping the price for an offer sells the truck at your "real" price, you're happy. If someone comes along and takes it full price, or close to it, you're happier.

AND, since you're really in no hurry, you can afford to keep it on the market longer, if you wish. Or, if is simply not getting many offers, drop the price after a while.

@RetiredUSNChief I bought a 95 2 door Tahoe needing some work because #dreamtruck. Then a neighbor was selling his 95 2500 Silverado so... Then I came across another 95 Tahoe 2 door Base in much better shape. Too much buying, not enough fixer-upping.

HAHAHA!

Soooo...parts, then?

Gotta wonder what possessed GM to drop the 2 door configuration the same year as Ford did. Wonder if that setup would sell now. I suspect not at the base price of a brand new Tahoe.

Yeah... Pretty sure that's what we call a mental disorder. :D

Trade for clapped out CRV and a beat up glock?
I'll offer my '99 dodge ram with 180K and the 5.2L

Well it took quite a while to sell. A few people came close and then interest disappeared after the world lost it's mind. But I finally found that one guy who was just desperate to have the truck. I knew there was someone crazy enough to buy it, I just had to be patient and wait for him to come across it.

I ended up getting my asking price which was $9,600. I still lost a bunch of money, but I think I did alright, considering. He didn't even haggle.

I'm really going to miss the beast as I still love driving it, but it was the right decision. Plus it's going to a good home with someone who has deeper pockets and can do the work that needs to be done. If you live around Tega Cay, you might spot it.

Thanks again for all the previous advice!
