"This is my rifle....."

That is awesome. Thanks for posting that....

Way cool, man. Thanks!

In my 6 years of service I don't recall ever being issued a specific weapon. I do remember there were at least 4. The first was an M14, then 3 A1s. We kept track by "Slot Numbers". If you took one from a numbered slot in the rack, that was your assigned weapon. I must have killed over 500 enemy soldiers with them. I hated those plastic popup bastards ! :D They never seemed to stay down and I got to keep all the paper pistol kills .

That is incredible. As in demand as Garands in good condition are, to have it still be in the country and come up for sale after 70 years, WOW. I would think the odds of winning PowerBall would be better than finding that rifle. What an heirloom for his son and grandson.

Great story! I remember my first and only M1 that I was issued in high school JROTC for 4 years (79-83'). Springfield Armory #3134069, barrel was plugged and bolt face welded for the school however. Carried that sucker for over an hour everyday after school. Owned about 9 of them over the years. Now I highly doubt I'll ever be able to own any of the rifles I was issued in the Army or carried in the service in Iraq. Our Gov't doesn't trust us after we get out with a "once a machine gun, always a machine gun".

They only trust you while in service to the King.

I wonder what the odds were of him finding that rifle? That is a really awesome thing though.
