I’m pretty sure this is 7.62-51 (.308) but can anyone confirm for me?
All my reloading stuff is packed away getting ready for our big move06A1FBD6-0D1F-4389-A2E5-B86DFBCA1101.jpeg15E5285D-27DA-4149-9028-64BCDC9894D7.jpeg

Just an FYI, the circle with cross on the headstamp is the NATO symbol, so it could only be a caliber that NATO has adopted. So, technically, it is a 7.62x51. Same dimensions as .308, though.

Generally that's true, but there are exceptions. I once bought some .243 brass that was formed from 7.62x51mm LC brass. One could easily form a 7mm-08 case using 7.62x51mm brass too.

Very true!

I received some 300 Winchester from @Toprudder a few days ago. I am sizing along, and all the sudden STOP......? Someone had taken some 300 Winchester and necked it down to .284 I think. No worries, I muscled up and necked it back up to proper caliber, .308............... Loaded it today in fact.

You never know, I use 270 WSM to make 6.5 WSM. Sometimes 300 WSM, down to 270, then on to 6.5. I use 325 WSM to make 338 WSM, did 200 of those last week or two. Then I use 300 RUM to make EVERYTHING...........I have made 358 RUM, 9.3 RUM. 9.3 B&M, 375 B&M, 416 B&M, 458 B&M, 475 B&M, 50 B&M, 500 B&M, 458 B&M EX, 458 B&M SA and 50 B&M SA, all out of 300 RUM or any other RUM............... I have used 375 H&H and 416 Remington to make 458 Lott and 470 Capstick. I have used 375 H&H and 8mm Rem to make 358 STA.......... and I could go on and on and on............ Sometime Head Stamp don't match, but not a big deal either...... make it whatever you want..............

7.62X51 or 308 makes good 338/08, or now 338 Federal, or 358 Winchester.... a bunch of lesser calibers....... I even have a friend in Australia that took it to 416..............

Bottom line, it looks to be a standard Lake City 7.62x51 NATO casing circa 1987, unless it's been resized to something else.

Sorry about that!

It’s definitely .308. Neighbor has calipers and we checked them. I have a lot of them that I primed 5 years ago and put them away when we moved. Getting ready to move again and rediscovered them.

Oh no, nothing to be sorry about...... I did not see it either until running it into the size die......... Even after, it was hard to pick out, was only about 20-25 of them........ Was of no consequence, run them on through size die and expanded the necks, loaded right up..........

Like finding new stuff all over again, cheaper than shopping for them.................

It’s a great find. I’ve already sized and primed them. Although I have a bunch of primers stashed it still saves what I have of stashed primers for other projects.
