Probably a stupid question, but...

I picked up a 308 VEPR for a song today and I've already started looking at threading the muzzle.
I've done a couple SAR1's, a MAK, and a 223 Saiga thus far, but there's some variables on this VEPR I want to be sure about.

For one, most guides I can find online recommend 5/8x24 for the 308 VEPR, but I calipered the business end of this rifle and get .55, which is too small. For that reason, I'd assume 14x1 would make more sense.
My problem is that I can't seem to find a thread alignment tool specifically for 308/14x1. I can find 7.62x39/14x1, but not a 308 specific.
Since x39 is like .311 and not .308, will a x39 TAT work in a 308 bore?

I'd be leery personally, but I'm pretty anal about stuff being precise/exact so to speak.
I'd just use a live center on a lathe.......just saying......or pay a machine shop to do it....if you don't have access to a lathe.
