Mossberg® Terminates Relationship with Dick’s Sporting Goods

NORTH HAVEN, CT – O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc., a leading American firearms manufacturer, announced today its decision to discontinue selling products to Dick’s Sporting Goods, and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, in response to their hiring of gun control lobbyists in April 2018.

Effective immediately, O.F. Mossberg & Sons will not accept any future orders from Dick’s Sporting Goods or Field & Stream, and is in the process of evaluating current contractual agreements.

“It has come to our attention that Dick’s Sporting Goods recently hired lobbyists on Capitol Hill to promote additional gun control.” said Iver Mossberg, Chief Executive Officer of O.F. Mossberg & Sons. “Make no mistake, Mossberg is a staunch supporter of the U.S. Constitution and our Second Amendment rights, and we fully disagree with Dick’s Sporting Goods’ recent anti-Second Amendment actions.”

Consumers are urged to visit one of the thousands of pro-Second Amendment firearm retailers to make their purchases of Mossberg and Maverick® firearms. Firearm retailers can be found through the Mossberg Dealer Locator by visiting http://www.mossberg.com/dealers/.

Just sent them the following email:

To the ownership and management of Mossberg,

I'd like to take a moment to thank you for the decision to stop selling to Dick's Sporting Goods and Field & Stream stores. Asa strong supporter of our Nation and our 2A rights, I decided to stop buying from them when I heard of their recent extra-legal firearms sales policies and their hiring of pro-gun control lobbyists.

I deeply appreciate Mossberg's patriotic commitment to our Constitution and Bill of Rights, as well as our unique American way of life. I look forward to shopping for Mossberg's fine products from the many freedom-minded vendors and retailers available in brick-and-mortar and online venues.

Sincerely,

I think mossberg was probably a bigger selling brand of firearm to be had at dicks than SA. Good for them.
Yes. I never saw any SA's in there, but losing Mossberg is going to hurt them. Now if Henry will follow suit...

Remember when hunting and fishing we're a separate section called The Lodge?

At this point, they may as well close up their gun counter.

Maybe they can make up for their losses by selling more Yeti coolers. ;)

Dont see myself purchasing one of their items, at least not new, no matter what their decisions...just dont want/need one.
But good on them for standing up for what they believe, that's awesome!

Why would any self-respecting, law-abiding gun manufacturer operate in Connecticut? Or New York, or Massachusetts, or Illinois, or California, or Colorado? It boggles the mind.

I love the move. Now if Mossberg would just get customer service worth a crap.

I'm not the only one

"I think these things are pretty goofy, but the appeal is obvious. It’s got the power of a shotgun in a much smaller package that can be stashed in places where a typical long gun doesn’t fit. But the downsides might not be as obvious, especially to someone who hasn’t spent a lot of time behind a shotgun. The big advantage of using a shotgun is its ballistic effectiveness but also, like all long guns, they’re easier to fire accurately than handguns. But the removing shoulder stock negates that advantage. It is now functionally a handgun with horrible ergonomics."

It took people a while to realize that, yeah a .410 shotgun revolver is cool in theory. But the .410 slug is what, 95-100gr and a .45LC is around 255gr optimally, so why not get a lighter 45LC revolver with 6 shot capacity, and use 45LC bird shot when you see a snake....

Not my fault he's a mediocre hip-shot. I own one, and the only thing I DON'T care for is the polymer furniture.

FWIW, there are several people with video reviews that have no issue hitting their mark accurately and efficiently.

it's basically an end-around to the NFA, which I like. Maybe with a brace it would be semi-useful and not just a toy. But the real use is to buy one, apply for a stamp, and then put a stock on it.

It astounds me, how on a site, that puts such a high value on freedom of choice and free will, that we criticize each other for the buying choices we have made. That we didn't make the most logical choice or decide on the "best" or "correct" product.
A wee bit hypocritical don't you think?
Ultimately, buying is an emotional decision. Try as we might to justify and rationalize our buying decisions with logic and specs, we buy something because we like it. Do we need any more justification than that?

Yes, but we do this because we are each passionate in our own way, knowing that there's a whole world of choices available to us.

It's not as if we're anti-gunners mindlessly bashing any kind of gun ownership at all.

When you think about it, it's really no different than sports fans everywhere who have their own favorite teams which they support above all others. Redskins fans and Cowboys fans may be at each other's throats over their respective teams, but by God they ALL love football!

:D

And because we sometimes lose track of the original topic. ;)
