Titegroup and 200 grain blue bullets for .40?

I have heard not to do this. Too fast and peaky for the heavy .40’s I guess. I would be interested if someone is running this as I have tons of both. I use titegroup for 9mm and Viht n320 for .40 with a 200 blue making major. I also load long for a 5” 2011 ~1.15 OAL. Consistently low 170’s PF with a light charge 4.1-4.2 grains.

YMMV

I use cleanshot, 4.1 gr under a 200 gr blue at 1.175 oal.
I would bet titegroup would be 3.8 - 4.2 at the same oal

I don't shoot competitions, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Personally, I would not use Titegroup with 200gn in .40, but that is my opinion. Titegroup is known for being "peaky", and with 200gn bullets you will have very little case volume left. Just a slight change in seating depth (or bullet setback) could be a bad thing. The heaviest I would consider using would be 180, but I prefer lighter bullets than that in .40.

with "factory" load ammo or reloaded to fit many of the striker fired or European specials, titegroup may not be ideal and your assessment is correct.
Overall length‎: ‎1.135 in (28.8 mm)
Maximum pressure‎: ‎35,000 psi (240 MPa)
Bullet diameter‎: ‎400 in (10.2 mm)
Case length‎: ‎850 in (21.6 mm)

However, the guns the guys are using this particularly wanted load in are are using a 1.175 to 1.200 o.a.l. A huge difference concerning case volume and the dreaded pressure spikes

He does have a point with setback though. Because you aren’t really crimping a coated bullet I would think it is more susceptible to setback and a slightly slower less peaky powder would be a safer bet.

You make a good point! As long as they will fit the mag, and feed reliably, the longer OAL should leave more margin. The important thing is where the base of the bullet ends up, and a different profile bullet may also leave more volume in the case. 1.250 is the max SAAMI OAL for 10mm, so seating at 1.200 would be closer to a 10mm cartridge than a 40 S&W.

"Dreaded pressure spike"...has anyone ever had their reloads tested for pressure?
Have heard for years about high pressure with this load and that load and over all length. Years ago Western Powder would test loads for you. The only lab that I know that will do it now is HP White .

Yes, I've been loading 180g at 1.20. I'll start at that Length with the 200 and try 3.8.
