I currently load only for my 6.5CM, but ive loaded 223 in the past.

I just built a SPR, not for super precise shots like my 6.5 but wanted it "battlefield" accurate and plan on only using it for 500 yards, MAYBE 600. Its def. a shorter range, quick shot rifle. That was my intentions.

I bought 100 pieces of starline brass, a box of 69gr smk (they shot great in my ruger bolt gun) and counting up costs, not counting brass, Ive got roughly 28c-30c a bullet, 10c per powder charge and 4c a primer.

im sure the hand loads will me more accurate but at 15c a round less, i can get fed. 55gr then sell the brass?

Just contemplating if its worth the extra costs and time, or if 55gr will be accurate enough to hold moa out to 500

If you get box store 55g federal to do MOA at any distance, I’m impressed lol. If your lucky or that good getting a factory round to group under MOA for under $.70-1.00 (or more) a round, I’m super impressed.

I reload “plinking rounds” that run under MOAish out of several carbines at $.25 each. My current pet load for my favorite carbine is $.45 a round.

If my “SPR” clone load work up comes to fruition. The most expensive combo I am seeing will be $.70 max.

I do my own brass prep from range pick ups so add $.05-.10 a round for time if you’d like. But I can’t see a reason not to reload for the .223/5.56:cool:

I was ringing 200m 6" steel using 55gr Remington ammo. (aka cheap factory ammo). Personally, I'm holding off on loading .223 until prices start to rise again.

@Butter let me know about those cheap pills. I may be interested if you're selling. I don't have a .223 stash yet.

I have found the IMI Razorcore 77 to shoot about 1 moa from my 20” rifle, and they recently had that on sale for $0.54 a round. The only thing better was Winchester 77 Match, about 0.75 moa, that was $1.20 a round. I can load ammo that shoots better than either of those for $0.30 - $0.35 a round. I can load cheap plinking ammo, 1 moa, for about $0.25 a round.

But that is my rifle. Every one is different. You will also have to decide how much accuracy is worth to you, and just what is “accurate enough”.
