Old tobacco barn on my property.
It has square nails, hand hewn beams and quite a few very nice round hanger beams.
The roof has kept alot of the wood dry and off the ground, but it won't last forever.
I'd like to see the wood used for something, and get rid of the eyesore.

Ideas?

Hunting shed
Man cave
Mother in law cell

Cut a few up pieces and see how bad the termites are.

People love old barn wood. They make cabinets and flooring of it most of the time. Pull it, plane it, use it, I guess. There are reclaimed lumber companies that will come get it if there is enough of it, I’m sure.

Anyone ever go Yellowhammer (pronounced Yella Hamma) hunting in Tobacco barns at night? You climb up to the top and grab them sleeping from behind. My cousin reached up one night and grabbed a hawk. Great fun was had by all!

My buddy talks about doing that every time we pass an older barn. He still has his old flashlight on a shelf in his barn above his bench. Said they would get a pillow case of them and play jokes on people.

The humanity!, Letting an old log barn get that way to start with.

It would still be standing if the pond drain had been kept open.
After the drain plugged up, water ran out the emergency overflow, downhill and undermined the barn foundation.
It really does suck. I would love to have that barn as a workshop!!

If someone you, or someone you know better has a use for it go that route.

If not I know we could use it in our camp at Robin Sage to add onto the open air kitchen or some other project.

This^^^ Many (many) years ago I worked in a shop that made barnwood picture frames. They were always out and about looking for new sources of wood to work with. If you can't find any other use I am sure someone would pay for it.

I pulled this square nail out of a truss.
Does that give any date range? Pre WWII?

I have no idea, I am not that good... lol

However we walk around with change in our pockets everyday that is 30-40years old so I can long assume so did they back in that day.

I turn the iron off and start swinging..

If I had some land to use it on, I'd be interested in it, but right now it's just a lot of work and storage. Hope it doesn't go to waste.

I used barn wood at my window ledges, to face my bar front, make picture frames, mirror frames, coffee table....

I just built a coffee table from my grandpa's 2 story barn. I have a crap ton of wood left. I need to start on my wife's buffet soon.
