I need of some rifle powder and primers so I have been on the lookout for powder for my 6.5 CM, 308, 223 and 204 Ruger. When I saw Reloading Unlimited had free haz-mat fees on orders over $190 I decided to get enough powder for the next few months. I order 2 pounds of 223 CFE, BenchMark, Varget and 8028 powder. Also 1000 small and large rifle primers.
Got an e-mail from them today saying that they were out of 223CFE and 8028. I can understand the 223CFE but not the 8028. That (8028) must be an up and coming powder. I have never used it before I got the 204.
Lucky I have other powder that I can use until I can find the 223CFE and 8028.

Do you mean 8208 XBR? I use that in 223 and have had excellent results with it. I went to the gun show this past weekend to pick up a couple more pounds of it, and walked out with an 8lb jug. I've had good luck with Varget as well.

Out of curiosity, what primer are you using. I have my .223 brass turned and sitting on the bench waiting for me to acquire some more small rifle primers. Was going to go with CCI mil spec (41??).

Toprudder you are correct with the 8208 XBR. I have only bought it one time to run in my 204 Ruger. I see that it is listed for the 223 and people are showing good results.

Charlie B, I usually try to run CCI primers but lately the gun shows only had the Federal. 99% of the time that is the only 2 primers at the shows. Now it is because I missed the last show here in Savannah and missing the next show in March is what put me in the position that I am in.

I know that felling I am missing the GSO show this weekend. Sure does make keeping inventory levels up difficult. I have to keep the "bleeding" slow and constant or the wife will pick up on how much shooting really costs. Missing shows does not help.

Charlie, I agree in lets say"Keeping the wife out of the loop" on how much reloading supplies are costing. With that said I just spent over $350 on-line to get inventory levels back up to where I like them.

My wife knows everything I spend. But, she is a shooter, too. She gives me an allowance, and I spend it as I want. :)

I have used either CCI 41, or Federal 205MAR.

Have you noted any muzzle velocity differences to speak of between the two. Have seen some information on Reloading Network that indicates the 41s may be "hotter" than Fed AR Match.
Unfortunately I have not done a side-by-side comparison. I have similar loads shot at different times, that suggest the CCI primers are a little hotter (maybe 40fps) but the Federal primers gave lower standard deviations. The Federal 205MAR were hard to find (I asked Blue Collar to get some for me) and they are more expensive.

ON EDIT: In looking at my notes, the difference in velocity was with a different barrel, slightly longer. So, the CCI may not be any hotter.
