Looking for an in-house tool cabinet along the lines of this Craftsman: http://www.sears.com/craftsman-home...enter-with/p-00913751000P?rrec=true#Imagezoom

Basically need something sufficiently small to fit alongside a W/D set up that can do the duty of laundry and home tool storage (e.g. heavier liquids in the bottom cabinet; batteries, screwdrivers etc. in the upper drawers).

Any alternative suggestions for make/model or pros/cons of the Sears line?

This isn't a break the bank proposition, but I don't have much practical experience so figured that I'd ask here rather than risk having to slap my forehead (Doh!) later.

I have that exact same tool box setup in my garage. The handle for the bottom cabinet is a little different and the top box may have five drawers instead of four. Also, my bottom cabinet has handles on at least one side. I'm getting ready to replace it with a bigger box. The bottom cabinet door, base and caster wheels have some surface rust on them. But otherwise, it is in great shape. I'll check this evening to see if the rust will come off easily. If it does, I'll post a pic of it on here. If you're interested in it and don't mind a used setup, I'll let you have it, no charge.

In this pic, you can see part of the box on the left side:

Qball,

Thank you very kindly for the offer. As this is going to be an inside "application" in a rather visible part of the house, I think the WAF will require something new. We have just moved into a farmhouse (rental) and the back door leading from the carport essentially opens into a joint kitchen/WD space where this item will reside. So this piece will need to look reasonably pristine.

Again, thank you for your kindness in offering. It sounds like you were satisfied with it as a unit?

Oops. I went back and read your OP again. I didn't realize it was going inside. If I stuck this tool box in my wife's laundry room, I'd be sleeping outside. Lol. Yeah, I don't blame you. But yes, it has been a great tool box. It is at least 25 years old. I'm just going to replace it because I'm running out of space for my tools. Even with a bigger black box that is not visible in the pic, I still need more space for tools. So I'm going with one big long box.

That was probably my faux-British understatement going.

Nah. It was my excitement seeing someone post a need for a toolbox exactly like the one I'm replacing soon and interfering with my already poor reading comprehension. I just saw the thread title and without reading your post, clicked on your link. Then I skipped all thought processes and went directly to typing. Lol.

44in 13 drawer US General from Harbor freight and put a nice wood top on it.

Best bang for your buck in the toolbox market. And the wood top would dress it up for the home.

I wouldn't even consider a modern crapsman. Especially since being in the house you'll be using the drawers often it sounds like. It just won't last.

This seems to be the Harbor unit that fits my needs: https://www.harborfreight.com/tool-...er-black-roller-cabinet-2-pc-combo-63026.html . Many thanks for the suggestion..

The black one is junk, the drawer slides and bearings are terrible. If going with something like that you'll find better value similar priced Home Depot box. husky? or similar.

Go to the store and feel for yourself. There is a ton of difference In the red US general boxes and the rough textured black boxes. Once you check out the black box floor models you'll see that line from HF is pretty cheaply manufactured

Thanks. I was just about to hit "click". Sounds like it is worth the trouble to get some "eyes on" here.
