I'm thinking about buying a two year old RAV4. Any opinions or advice about this vehicle. I've only owned sedans up to this point. I want to replace an older car.

The Rav4 is a decent vehicle that should give you years of solid use. I would still test drive some competing models to see if it's what you really like or want. My wife narrowed the decision down to the Rav4 and the Mazda CX-5. We both like the Mazda better.

I rent them or a Rogue at Hertz, nice rides.

I was in the market between the Rav-4 and the Nissan Rouge. The Rav-4 had more pep and stiffer ride. Was more expensive than the Nissan. Was a bit less headroom.

Before buying a Rouge, check the reviews for problems. Knowing two people who have had issues with theirs, it was removed from the consideration list.

Yep, I stay away from Nissan's in general. The RAV should be a great car. Kelly and I have a 2013 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring with 85000 trouble free miles. So far, it's been bullet proof. Good luck on your decision.

My SIL had her first Rav4 for about 12 years and got a new one about a year ago. She only replaced the first one because she could. It was fine. And she lives up in Upstate NY with snow, ice and salt. Very reliable vehicles.

I test drove a rav 4 a Mazda CX-5 and a Subaru Forester a few years back. Rav seemed a tad over priced considering I could get AWD standard on forester at same price of two wheel drive on Rav. Mazda was great but a tad under powered. Ended up choosing forester. My MIL has a Mazda and she loves it.
I think any of these are good picks. Would not go Nissan route.

The RAV4 is an excellent option. I bought one for my wife. She initially wanted a Subaru Forester, but they don't age well.

After we bought the RAV4 and her sister bought the Forester, we know we made the right decision with as many problems that has plagued the Forester.

You'll be hard pressed to beat a Toyota. I'd steer clear of Nissan, they're rattle traps.

Wife has a 2013 RAV4, fun little SUV to drive, AWD works very well in snow (she won't let me try it in mud). My only gripe is the driving range, just over 300 miles (400+ on trips) on a tank. Smaller fuel tanks are probably a result of cutting weight for gas mileage. Get 21+ MPG with city driving only. 30ish on road trips.

I'm used to 550 - 700 from a tank with my VW TDI.

How long do you plan to keep the car? If you're looking for well over 100k miles of use and are getting an automatic transmission, Toyota is your best bet.
