Trail camera pictures

I don't have any pictures, yet, but was told Saturday that a big tan cat with a very long tail, that does not exist in NC, has been seen crossing just below my property. An a big black one, not far away.

A lady that lives less than a half a mile from me said she saw a large cat with long tail crossing the road in from of our place. She’s an older god fearing woman with no reason to lie and I’m hoping to see it myself sometime.

good luck and I’ll be watching for your pictures.

@Pbj ak, what part of Wilkes do you live in? I have a lot of ancestors, Anderson's, that lived in the Hunting Creek area of Wilkes county. My gggrandfather is buried on top of the mountain about a mile behind Cherry Grove Baptist Church, which was their old home place.

My place is just barely over in the edge of Alleghany Co., in Laurel Springs.

I live in Hays/traphill on a road off of long bottom.

Not sure about hunting creek but laurel springs is a really nice.

You never know, I’d be taking a walk out through there the next few nights. How cool would it be to see a lion in the wild, as long as you’re properly armed and a way to see would be nice too.

edited to add: If your luck is anything like mine it might be a house cat but it’s still fun to go out walking late at night.

It could be a big domestic cat. I wish it was looking at the trailcam instead of walking away from it.

I really need to put a couple cams in my yard. there seems to be piles of deer poo inside the fence around my pool. it's believable since we've seen deer. I was thinking maybe a giant bunny because we have those too.
it seems that decent cams are expensive though. I don't need cell service (good luck getting a signal anyway) but if I could throw some old 1-4GB sd cards in and check every couple weeks...

The $30 cams from walmarts are good. 8 megapixel and they have a fast capture rate. I have one that is 6mos on same batteries going right now in my yard.

I’m not 100% sure I didn’t post a picture last year but here’s one I shot less than 40 yards from my back porch. Strange how it happened but it was “stalking” my wife that night.D8A5A8B4-E56D-42A9-B708-68F7F01378CB.jpeg

@Pbj ak interested on how it was stalking

@DrScaryGuy I’ve got a couple cheaper cameras I I picked up on the forum a while back and they work good for what I need. I think they’re the “Walmart brand “.
Although I admit I’d like to have a few like some of the other guys on here. A lot of the pictures on here are amazingly clear.

@amnesia

maybe stalking isn’t exactly the right word but...

One night around 10:30/11 late last year it was raining and had been all day. The rain was running down the mountain behind our house so we went out and started digging ditches to help it drain. We had been out there for over an hour so the batteries in or lights (microstream) were getting dim. I had mine on my hat and my wife had hers in her mouth. All of a sudden I hear her say a couple four letter words and she came running over to me and said there’s something watching me. Her light wasn’t bright enough to see what it was, just bright enough to make its eyes shine. I told her it was probably a rabbit but to go get my rifle and we’d see what it was. I kept my light on it’s eyes and it did walk back up into the woods 10-15 yards before she got back. When she returned we put the big light on it and it took several minutes to figure out what it was but after we confirmed (looking at its ears) it was a cat she wanted me to shoot it being it was so close to the house. We have 2 small girls and a deaf dog and we thought it wouldn’t have any problem sneaking up on our then puppy. Anyway I shot and its eyes went out. It was back up in some very thick briars and it took me a good 10/15 minutes to find it.
After it was over I walked it off from where she was working and the cat was 8/10 yards away sitting just in the tree line.

The difference in size between the 2 critters in those pictures is a lot. What do you think the second one is?

According to the state, mountain lions are extinct in NC, but it is illegal to shoot one.
well that makes perfect sense...

Thanks. I see walmart has an 8MP tasco for $30. I'd prefer to buy from somewhere else (if not possible, i'll reassess), but at least now I know what to look for with a couple of people who have experience with them. A lot of the other ones I looked at, even more expensive ones, had terrible reviews.

What the heck is the ball of black round

You need a better camera.
I think its the 4glte transmission - I bet a higher res is stored on the card if I take my butt out there to look at it.
