Need to get a better optic than the Sig Romeo i have. Couple guys i have shot with had the MRO and like it. Does anyone know of a quality comparable optic of the MRO, BUT the ability to have different reticules? I have a Primary Arms Aim Point type clone on another AR that is pretty good and it has different reticules that i like. But for my primary rifle i am going for a higher quality, durability and light weight. Sort of torn between Aimpoint micro and the MRO but thought there may be some hidden gem i don't know about.

I have an MRO and 2 Romeo 5s. The MRO is a POS with slight magnificatio. that messes up shooting with both eyes open and doesnt have motac motion power on and off like the SIGs. and costs 3x as much.

You want it you can buy it, or i can send this pos back to Trijicon and pay $50 for them to fix the magnification error.

A very small group have had issues with the MRO, but those were mostly with early models. Google is your friend with researching that. 99% of MROs are good to go and are equivalent to the Aimpoint Micro series.

I haven't bought off on SIG optics...they seem to just be rebranded, more expensive versions of other optics.

I love my mro. So much so that I bought another one. I don’t care about a feature that turns the optic on because my trijicon optics (MRO & RMR ) both last years on batteries. I change them in September of every year. So they’re always on. They simply work. I like the aimpoints too. I have no experience with the Holosun stuff but it seems to be ok not sure how hardened they’re built though.

at $129 for an R5, I would love to know what they're rebranded more expensive versions of. Holosun has already denied that SIG is rebranded HS optics.

Made in the USA is great, rah rah apple pah. But if the performance is the same, or substantially worse for more money AND you have to pay them to fix their error, then that sucks.

Get the Aimpoint Micro, which btw isn't made in the USA either.

First time I have ever heard anyone call an MRO a "POS". Maybe you got an real early model or maybe a lemon perhaps? It also doesn't need MOTAC, the battery life is up to 5 years. I don't know how much you paid for yours but they certainly don't cost 3x more than the Romeos, that's the great thing about the MRO. You're getting Trijicon quality in an optic that is equal to (or exceeds IMO) the aimpoint micros for a price of usually sub $400.

Now the Romeos on the other hand, go for about 3x more that what they are actually worth. Which is rebranded Chinese garbage.

Just curious, which Romeo do you have?

I have the Romeo 5. I think the dot is a bit grainy. I don't believe the quality is quite as good at an AimPoint or Trijicon and its made in China. I have a PA sight that is made in China and it works good but for my primary gun i want something made in America or at least, not in China.

In order to get the glass fixed, I have to pay them. That is what makes it a POS. Trijicon should stand by their product, but honestly they are worse than Chinese garbage peddlers.

US, Japan, Germany, whatevs, whichever optic is best bang for the buck, regardless of origin. I DO stay away from China. My comment about SIG is about all of their optics, generally.

I get your complaint about the MRO; my comment is basically, it's a data point. Every brand will put out a turd, but overall the MRO has excellent reviews. Thus far the MRO has stood out for its quality and pricepoint.

The Micro is a great optic, but for the money the MRO is a better value for a comparable optic.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I will spend more money to buy American. I also have ear pro that is made in Sweden and i think they are better too. I understand when budgets are tight you go for the best bang for the buck, but i can afford to buy better quality. I don't think the MRO is crazy expensive. As I said, i have a PA aim point clone and it has been a good site, but on my new AR15 build (Aero) with higher end parts, i want a better quality optic than something made in China.

They put out 90K turds as late as Q3 2017:

Trijicon is worse that Chinese garbage peddlers? LOL, that's funny right there!

I've never heard of anything but amazing things about Trijicon customer service. If they are charging you to "fix the glass", that's because they are just putting the new style in your optic that doesn't have any magnification, there's nothing wrong with your optic....you just don't like it.... that's not an "error" on Trijicon's part. It was never any big secret that when the MRO first came out that it had some very slight magnification and after some customer feedback they changed the lenses. So, how are they not standing behind their product???

Straight from their website........

Is the MRO® magnified?
The Trijicon MRO Manufactured before Serial number 89,000 did have a very slight magnification of 1.05x which is within the range of competitive reflex-style sight. Responding to customer feedback Trijicon adjusted the magnification in MROs with a serial number of 89,000 or higher to have a magnification of 1.00x or no magnification.

I looked at the link you posted and in it people were saying that they were fixing the .05 magnification for free. Maybe that was last year i don't know. I have different vision in both eyes anyway. I don't know if .05 magnification would bother me anyway. Im sure the new ones are better.
They charge $50 since its not considered a warranty issue
Read the whole thread including the picture comparison between the Romeo5 and the MRO. One of the main reasons I now own 2 of them after owning an MRO

I have four Aimpoint Micro H1s and love them. I got all of mine on various sales for under $400 a copy. If I recall correctly three of them were bought on Black Friday sales in successive years.

Hmm, now that is a great idea! If i can wait a bit i might be able to save some coin on whatever i choose. I didn't think of Black Friday sales and it isn't that long of a wait. Thanks for posting!

I got my 2nd mro today. It came from brownells for $360 shipped without the mount. I bought an slr mount for it. You can have a great mount and optic for about $400. Some may “think” they’re trash I simply disagree with that. I have an sub 89k one and a current production one now. The pre 89k doesn’t bother me at all. I’m focused on the target anayways.

I didn’t think the MRO was poor quality but I couldn’t stand the slight magnification, even after I sent it back to Trijicon. Sold it for an Aimpoint H1 and never looked back.

It really messes with my astigmatism, even moreso than a regular dot.

FWIW PSA has the Holosun 503 GL for $119. Good alternative for Sig haters

Stick with the Sig R5 or pony up and get an Aimpoint H1, H2, T1 or T2. IMHO unless it is a duty optic or a self defense gun there is no I would just stick with the R5. From all reports they are decent "cheap" optics on par with Primary Arms, Holosun etc... I think if you go in eyes wide opening knowing what you are getting the Sig is a decent option for a range gun. They are not duty quality optics like Sig tries to portray them as but for a pure fun gun they seem to work. You can get them for $109 from Brownells shipped to your door. At that price point they are solid.

I am throwing one on an AK74 as a temp optic until I can get the funds for a Aimpoint. I figure it will work for now and when I want to upgrade I can sell it for $100 or move it down the food chain to an AR15.

I like my MRO. I got one of the newer ones with no magnification. I picked it up several months ago for $350 shipped. I haven't had any issues at all.

Yup 99% of the complaints I have seen about the MRO is with the older version that was somewhere over 1X magnification. It messed with some peoples eyes and sight picture. Other people had no issues but if I was buying one I would verify it is the new version. Any serial number 89,000 or higher and you are good to go. That said I still prefer the Aimpoint Hs and Ts.
