So once I started looking for a rifle for my daughter I just had to type Marlin into the search bar and see what was close by.

A 1972 made 1895 in 45-70 showed up for $675....why? You might find one a little less but not much. In pictures it looks really clean and the guy was kind enough to send me a bunch of pictures. I don’t NEED a 45-70 but I’ve always loved big bore, straight wall rounds.

I wonder how mad my wife would be?

Just show her the price difference between Marlins 20 years ago compared to Marlins today, then show her that it isn't spending money on a depreciating asset, it is turning fluid specie into a tangible investment asset that appreciates annually and can be turned back into currency quicker than an investment firm can process a stock sell and distribute a check.

Fact.

Don't ask don't tell

A buddy told me today that my wife would be so mad if she knew how in spend on firearms. To which I replied... That's why the safe always looks the same from the outside. And I recently purchased a double rifle bag I can always walk into and out of my "armory" with the same look.

All my handguns and rifles are black so they look alike ;) with a few exceptions, I am a fan of heavy metal pistols.

I got busted with a rifle recently that had a significantly different finish than my others.

She 100% noticed this [emoji2361]

True, unless it’s a Sig, I got only as an investment.
The argument falls flat with my bride, “You know as well as I do, you’ll never sell a gun.”

There is the “truth” and then there are things that are true despite the truth...

I agree with the others---sell it to her as an investment. Easiest way to do this is to buy something with the intention of trading/selling(to support your hobby only;)) and involve her in the process. They tend to be more understanding after seeing it is possible to buy a $275 G23 trade in and sell it the next day for $400 or trade it for two 20 ga Wingmasters withing a week.

My wife won’t buy the investment pitch, I’ve tried. I’ve traded a few guns for others but I rarely flat out sell something.

Getting a bad feeling about the guy who has the Marlin anyway, he seems flakey.

Yeah, a bunch of sissies who actually include their wives in the financial livelihood of their households and joke about it on the internet.

If only I could be such an alpha male to puff myself up on the internet and claim that my ability to “do as I darn well please despite the ol lady” makes me somehow more of a man than those who look at their marriage as a partnership and not a dictatorship.

Ain't nobody doin' no puffin but you buttercup. She makes her money and I make mine, she does what she wants to and so do I.
When a man has to ask PERMISSION and wait to be "approved" is that still considered a PARTNERSHIP?? I think not..... Of course you call it whatever makes you feel better...

If you do what you want and she does what she wants then that is the opposite of a partnership. That’s two independents being independent. Partners discuss things that impact a family including purchases.

And for the record I personally don’t ask permission. But I don’t begrudge men as less manly who do because I don’t assume to know what their families finances are like or how much disposable income they may have to purchase non-essential hobby gear. I give them the benefit of the doubt that they know what they are doing in their own situations without me judging them one way or the other. That’s a very leftist thing to do.

There is a wide expanse between “I do whatever I want” and “Honey, can I please buy an extra box of .22’s”

The best thing is to have an understanding and work off of that.
My wife could care less what “supplies” I buy but I would imagine if I was to buy a new 70,000$ bass boat, she’d want to be notified.

It’s all in what you are comfortable with and have agreed upon.
If the “roommate” thing works for you then fine. If you’re more of a “mother may I” then whatever.

Just realize that neither of those examples represent a true marriage.

I’m pretty sure what he says about his “marriage” is true.
And just for the record, he probably has one of the nicest collections of shotguns you’ll ever see.

Some of the other things are probably open for discussion. :p

Ps. This is the open forum. You’ll need to clean up the language.

Locking this one down for obvious reasons.

The thread has steered off-topic and has digressed to name calling and personal insults. I would suggest that everyone take a step away from the keyboards and take a deep breath while CFF staff reviews this.
