I mean the kind that are always there for us, through good times and bad, through the births and deaths we experience, always ready to lend a helping hand. And we do the same for them. If we are extremely lucky, we have two or three in our entire lives.
Well, I have two. One is my wife. I can't say enough about her, but this is not about her.
The other one, my best friend, my truest friend...no, my brother of 27 years passed away last night. My god daughter called me about 7 a.m. to tell me her dad had been in a motorcycle accident last night and has passed away. I'm in complete shock.
I went to his dads house (you know, because his dad might as well be my dad too) to pay my respects this morning. Apparently, I was the first visitor he has had. As soon as he saw me, the tears started. We both had a good cry together and even in his state of mind, he kept thanking me for all I had done over the years. [Theres a long story of addiction, divorces, and depression I won't really get into here]
Jay battled his demons for a long time, but over the last few years, seemed to have them conquered. Whatever else can be said about him, he truly had a heart of gold.

Don't pray for me, I'm fairly resilient. It hurts, but I will make it.
Pray for his family...his dad, two sisters, his daughter to have the strength they need to go through this. They lost the matriarch of the family to cancer last year, now a son and brother has left us, too.

Dear Lord,
Please wrap your arms around my brother, welcome him into your house, and give his soul the peace it deserves so that one day I may stand beside him in your presence.
In Jesus name I pray,
Amen

R.I.P. my brother.

My thoughts and prayers are with you brother. You let us here know if you need anything at all.

We shared a whole lot of experiences together.
He hugged me bye at the airport when I left for boot camp in '97. Guess who was at the airport when I came home?
He stood outside the delivery room while my wife birthed our son...because I was deployed. He was the first person to hold my son after my wife.
When I came home for r&r, guess who was there again? He was the one who actually handed me my son for the first time, not my wife.
He thumped two guys in the head with a stick one day when they jumped on me.
He cried on my shoulder when he lost his mom.
He was the first one to my house and cried as hard as I did when I lost my dad.
He made a car payment for me while I was between jobs. Never once asked to be repaid.

He can never be replaced.

Prayers for all, yourself included.

I have a brother like that. I pray every day he finds Christ.

Like others have said, I'm sure your brother was proud to call you brother.

It's hard to have the have the right words when someone this close leaves us behind. Prayers for the family and Godspeed J.M. Rachels.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. We'll keep all of you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Thoughts and prayers.

God our Father,

Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.
