I’m generally happy with the behavior of TSA agents towards me. I’m pretty easy going and friendly. Have been patted down and no big deal.

Today I’m in a rush. Passport in hand, but boarding pass in my bag. Set the passport on the agents desk and dig out my boarding pass. Put it on the scanner. Agent is sitting there with her hand out, says “hand me your passport.” I do, all good.

So, did I somehow offend her? Was she just enforcing her authority to make me do what she wanted? Is there some protocol that I don’t know about? Can’t imagine that in the hundreds of times I’ve flown since we started the whole TSA thing that I’ve just happened to hand my passport to the agent every time.

If there is a reason I’d like to understand, if she’s just being a witch next time I’ll know to stand there and look stupid.

Like any menial job that requires zero actual skill but comes with just a tad bit of authority (ahem...interwebz forum moderator....), she probably just got pissy and wanted to be obstinate. It happens.

Welcome to 2019 where people are doing you a favor by simply doing their job.

or...

She was in a sh*t mood after being paid exactly what she was worth for the past few weeks.

or...

Apparently guaranteed tenure for not doing anything particularly challenging will begat an entitled, POS employee.

etc.

TSA suffers from the same problems as a lot of .gov jobs. Quotas, poor training, poor leadership, and crap attitudes. It is a wonder anything gets done at all. I’ve had to deal with the SSA on behalf of my 88 yr old Grandmother and I can tell you that very few of them give two shits about serving the taxpayers interest.

What would have happened if you had refused?

Would she have stood her ground?

Would you?

I haven't flown since 11/2001 and I hope I never fly again.
I don’t know, I had hoped to learn if there is a policy or reason behind her actions, but apparently we don’t have any TSA folks on the board that are willing or able to discuss it.

Don’t take this personal but lots of people find it rude that you can’t hand them your money or documents. When I hand a cashier my money and they lay the change on the counter I find it disrespectful service.
Yeah I suppose so, but do you then tell the cashier to pick up the change and hand it to you?

No I just look at them until they do while holding out my hand.

You guys have more time for stupid people than I do.

Going off on a tangent, why do the drive through folks give you back your bills first and then stack $.97 in dimes nickel and pennies on top?

Because they are relying on a machine to tell them how much to give back and that is how the person pulls it out of the cash drawer. Your tax dollars at work.

Good question. Never thought of it but it works. Half of the change drops on the pavement and they then own it. The bigger question is how these fast food people graduated from high school, or middle school but yet can’t make change without a register telling them. That goodness for Chick-Fil-A homeschool kid hires. Best courtesy customer service in my area. Love those kids.

Sometimes, I like to mess with the financial geniuses in the drive thru. Like handing them $5.23 for a $4.98 bill, to see if they can figure out how to give me a quarter in change. You would surprised at how many give me $0.77 in change when they can’t figure it out. Far too many are totally lost if they enter a whole dollar amount and not the coins. It is very sad.

You said that you were in a rush. Could it be she picked up on your apprehension and it set off an alarm saying that something may be amiss here?

Naah, just tyrants tyranting.

Ah yes, the TSA and whole flying experience. I have often wondered if their behavior wouldn’t be so rude and aggressive if they didn’t have a disarmed victim, er I mean customer, group while hiding behind armed thugs, er I mean “officers”. You know like if there were real consequences for inducing that rage in people they work so hard at doing.

Pick it up and hand it to her, look her in they eye and say, "Would you like to guess where my hand has been?"
Or leave the note Inside it that you leave in everything?
