UFC talk

Ngannou is one of the few heavyweights that has to cut weight to make it. Stipe just stuffs his face with food. Probably mostly raw meat!

To take it one step further - when the bigger divisions get more competitive, a guy DC's size won't be able to (mostly) dominate the light heavyweight (205) division (nevermind competing successfully at heavyweight, which DC did). You don't see anyone in the lightweight or smaller divisions weigh in with as much bodyfat as DC - they can't, competition is too good to be giving up so much size (muscle mass and length) to a competitor.

Could you imagine a lean Big Country fighting at 205?

So it's official - Cormier v Miocic in July. IMHO, there should be a 195lb division and DC should drop down to it (and he could dominate there), but clearly DC hates cutting weight. So he's going up to heavyweight. Obviously he's beaten guys at heavyweight before, so going up against someone as big as Stipe isn't new to him. I think Stipe will win, but will be an interesting fight.

Shevchenko is dropping down to the new womens flyweight division. First fight is in Feb, and assuming she wins, I imagine she will be #1 contender for a title match.

Souza v Brunson rematch tonight. Their first fight below (skip to 5 min mark):

Ngannou has strongest punch ever measured of all UFC fighters.
He's a freak of nature!

........but the cardio of a Cheetah. He was burned out by the 2nd round. Stipe proved smarts and a well rounded game was too much for the beast.

Cormier v Miocic.....now that should be great matchup, and what the fan want to see.

Yeah, Ngannou has been trolled pretty good after that match on his cardio and wrestling skills. In his defense, he hasn't needed either up until now! Imagine he improves his cardio and develops the kind of takedown defense that Tyron Woodley has. He'd be scary AF then.

While everyone is making fun of Ngannou, let's not forget that guy throws widowmakers.

Yeah DC vs Stipe should be interesting. There's not a particularly intriguing fight at light heavyweight for DC (maybe Gustafsson rematch?). Goes to show that LHW and HW divisions just aren't super competitive yet (especially after Jon Jones repeated drug test failures).

The most important thing to remember about Ngannou is that he has only been fighting for like 3 years!

Indeed. Stipe sucks the life out of people!

Cormier is so small compared to Stipe. He is actually small for a light heavyweight! Would like to see it though.

He lasted a couple minutes longer than the last fight....

DC against Stipe after coaching on TUF....interesting fight here.....and with no real challengers at LHW or HW at the moment it makes sense. Its a real comment on the lack of real depth at the moment...or to be more specific for the HW...lack of young depth...that division is old and/or fragile.

Actually, Ngannou took the baddest man on the planet to a 5 round decision and left the fight with almost no damage, while messing up his face for real.

Just sayin.

Looking forward to Yoel Romero v Luke Rockhold for the interim middleweight belt, which should set the stage for a title consolidation match against Whittaker, since GSP is out of the picture and IMHO will not be coming back to 185. Though after last night, Souza needs to be involved in this mix.

Romero v Rockhold tonight. Romero missed weight, so it sounds like no interim belt for him if he wins; Rockhold will get interim belt if he wins.

Regardless of the belt/no-belt, it should be an interesting fight. Technically better Rockhold vs very explosive Romero. I think Rockhold will win, but a lightning quick flying knee could change everything. Rockhold can ground and pound IF he can get the quick and slippery Romero to the ground.

Another interesting fight on tonight's card is Mark Hunt v Curtis Blaydes. This looks like a fight primed to launch Blaydes into the big time by beating a well-known and popular, but older fighter. And it may prove to be just that. But Mark Hunt and those sledgehammer fists may upset the carefully crafted plan.

Why does the UFC even bother with rules if they aren't going to enforce them? When Germaine de Randamie hit Holly Holm after the bell in not just one, but TWO rounds (and the first one was by far the best strike she landed the entire fight), they didn't deduct even one point!

Tonight, Matthews had Jingliang locked into a guillotine, and Jingliang blatantly eyegouged Matthews to escape - right in front of the ref. Not one point was taken. Even though earlier in the fight, Jianliang had hooked his fingers inside Matthews glove to prevent Matthews from getting into another choke. So he blatantly cheats, and there is no penalty.

Imagine a NFL QB throws a would-be TD pass to a WR and the CB pulls the receiver's arm down to break up a sure TD. In the NFL, that's pass interference and the penalty is 1st and goal at the 1 yard line. Under UFC rules, this is an incomplete pass and we pretend there was no foul. So why have rules at all?

Romero! Dude KO'ed one of the most complete fighters in Rockhold, and he's 40 years old. Imagine Romero started MMA in his late teens or early 20s instead of his early 30s. He'd be nightmarish.

Luke's mind had already left the arena, but that uppercut sent him into the twilight zone. And a minute later, Romero is kissing him on the cheek. LOL.

Romero is gnarley. But man I can’t stand him. Of course he misses weight.
Always looks juiced to the gills. I hope Bobby Knuckles relocates his face to the back of his head!

He does look juiced. I'm kinda surprised Rockhold was content to stand and trade with him. I guess Rockhold figured he could use his jab and kicks to keep Romero at distance and disrupt his attacks. Those leg kicks sure looked like they had an effect, but only after the fight was over; should have kept at it with the leg kicks in the 2nd and 3rd round.

This is Yana Kunitskaya, who is facing Cyborg at UFC 222. Chum, meet shark. With this as the main event, UFC 222 looks fairly uninteresting, at least in comparison to recent UFC events, though Ortega vs Edgar should be interesting (#3 and #2 contenders in featherweight/145).

CM Punk vs Mayweather in the octagon? I guess both White and Mayweather think May will walk through Punk? Maybe they'll force him to cut down to a weight that leaves him weak. If this fight happens, I hope Punk has been training his kicks. No need to meet Mayweather's fists if you can punish his legs and his body with kicks.

Rockhold moving to 205. Should be interesting. He's certainly got the length and it would let him keep more muscle on his long frame. But those left hands that have been KO'ing him at middleweight are going to be a lot heavier at light heavyweight.

As expected, Cyborg made quick work of Kunitskaya, who looked totally overmatched and in awe of Cyborg's power. And this is the Invicta bantamweight champ! These girls moving up to featherweight to fight Cyborg are just not strong enough. The only person who wasn't at a big size disadvantage to Cyborg was Holly Holm, and even though she never really threatened Cyborg, she did go the full distance. Sounds like the next fight might be Nunes, who also would be moving up a weight class.

The other fight I want to see is Megan Anderson v Cyborg. Anderson is the current Invicta featherweight champ and she's 6' tall, so she's not giving up any size to Cyborg. That alone doesn't mean she won't get destroyed, but at least she won't be physically overmatched (same as with Holly, who was big enough to not be totally overpowered by Cyborg).

I guess the big surprise was Ortega KO'ing Edgar. I wonder if Edgar moves down to bantamweight after this.

And how about Sean O'Malley - he is dynamic AF. Hope he recovers well from that (broken?) foot. Huge strategic error by Soukhamthath to take O'Malley down - if he keeps the fight on the fight, he could have either finished O'Malley or had the ref call it.

O’Malley is fun to watch!
Has good power for such a skinny kid.

Ortega is a monster.

I hope Holloway wins! He’s game.
But not gonna put money on it!

Conor could've filled in for Ferguson, but didn't. And instead, shows up at the hotel where the UFC 223 press conference was being held.

He's trying to attack [maybe] Khabib? C'mon, pulling this crap while the fighters are deep into a weight cut? Apparently Rose was pretty shaken up. Even worse, Michael Chiesa was injured (cuts to his face apparently) and he's scheduled to fight Pettis on Saturday.

What a total douchebag.

Conor can do what he wants... He owns that shit... Hasn't fought in 500+ days and still the only name in MMA most folks know...

Perhaps. But his teammate cannot - Artem Lobov was apparently with Conor's crew during that silliness and for that, Dana yanked him from his UFC 223 undercard fight. All that training wasted; and who knows if he'll ever fight in the UFC again.

Yep lifetime ban from MMA of any kind including any kind of promotion company's he might be involved with now and future ,plus a 1,000,000 fine .

McGregor has been charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief after Thursday’s incident. McGregor turned himself in to the NYPD overnight and is expected to appear in front of a judge today.

McGregor can be seen on eyewitness videos attempting to throw a security barricade at the bus. After he was stopped, he picked up a wheeled dolly, video shows, and threw it at the bus window. It shattered the window, and the broken glass cut up the head and face of lightweight fighter Michael Chiesa and sent glass into the eyes of flyweight Ray Borg, UFC officials said.

In the aftermath, Chiesa (14-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) was ruled out of his main-card fight against Anthony Pettis (20-7 MMA, 7-6 UFC) due to the cuts. Borg (11-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC), too, was removed from his fight against Brandon Moreno (14-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) on the prelims. In addition, White already had removed Lobov (13-14-1 MMA, 2-4 UFC) from his featherweight fight against Alex Caceres (13-11 MMA, 8-9 UFC) for his alleged participation in the attack.

That means three fights in total were scrapped as a result of McGregor and his crew’s alleged attack on the bus, taking the event from 13 fights to 10 just two days before the show.

Yeah, none of that is going to happen... UFC isn't the only MMA game in town. No way to enforce it if they tried.

Conor can take care of him. He's a shit fighter anyhow.
