I've searched but not seen this...

A while ago I picked up a Uniden Voyager hand held VHF so I could test out some Marine 2-way radio installs. I was wonder how good this would be in a general survival comms category.

Uniden Voyager
54 Total Channels
VHF Marine Frequencies
NOAA weather alerts
1, 5.0 Watt Output Power

Good?
Bad?
Keep it for what I bought it for but don't expect anything else?

Nothing wrong with it that I can see. Your biggest limitation would be that it's on the marine frequencies, meaning you could talk to others on those frequencies.

The weather alert function could be handy.

I think I have the Same model, in white.
Worked good for line of site when I was Kayak fishing off the coast of CA. and the Local Lakes to keep in touch with my buddies. Like a CB, they are not that powerful. but would work in a pinch with others in the area with VHF.
That reminds me, I need to charge the batteries.

By "law" VHF is supposed to only be used in a marine environment to another VHF and in certain circumstances to another land based VHF. But given the current state of things, who really GAS about the "law"???
Call me one day and I'll turn on one of mine and we'll talk...
