USED Smith & Wesson 686 4"Barrel

According to the daily Hyatt Gun e-mail, about as much as a new one!

I wouldn't buy a gun in this market if I could avoid it. No such thing as a good price right now for anything it seems. Everyone wants all the money for what little they have to sell. Who knows?

I have to add that I know very little about the used revolver market, but I have gathered that some features that change over the years make a difference. So, it would depend on several factors. Hopefully someone with a clue will have an idea if you could give more info. 686? 686 Plus? Many refer to the seven shot Plus as just a 686.

I've seen pre-lock no dash 6 inch barrel 686 sell for as much as $800. I tend to think it had more to do with the Walking Dead Colt Python spill over into the Smith and Ruger market. Ive been watching the prices on larger caliber revolvers(I'm looking for a .41) for a while and they seem to be dropping a bit. Saw a 629 pre-lock 44 for $700, not bad considering what they were. One teh open market today, Id say a 4 inch pre-lock 686 should sell for in the $500-$600 range, especially if it has the wood grips. It will still be a tough market as many people(new gun owners) that want a gun, are not going to pay that for a revolver when there are so many polymer automatics on the market for under $300. I consider any Colt or Smith revolver a solid investment as new manufacturing techniques are not favorable to revolver manufacture, but its defiantly not a mainstream market

Odlly enough, local pawn shop has a model 66 6 inch barrel on Armslist right now for $700, they can keep dreaming

Varies by locale. My input.

Low dash or no dash will fetch, realistically, higher numbers. Same for barrel length.
Not an expert....just what I know. These are in excellent to pristine condition. Have been shot, but no heavy usage.
8 3/8 no or maybe -1 with factory box and OEM grips..stock, not a special will get $1000 - $1200 from average shooters. I sold one to a buddy.
6” will be lower....top of $800. Without the box, $700 or so. Popular for target guys
4”. Same deal..except the short barrels have two markets. Home defense or truck guns with box...$750. Without $575...

Hard to go wrong. I have or now owned 5 of them....in all lengths.

I paid over $650 for a pristine 586 no lock and felt like I got a great deal. These guns aren't hot garbage they're Americana that you can enjoy. Compared to a new one ain't even in the same ballpark. Better blueing, better trigger and no stupid Hillary hole to remind me of the bad times.

I paid exactly the same price for a pristine 4" 686 no-dash; and I got it from Jerek right before he got sick, so I know the price was better-than-fair.

He had a 63 and a 64 from the same collection. Still kick myself for not buying all three.

Got a pristine 64 no dash with the 4" pencil barrel as well. Its probably the the most accurate handgun I own. Definitely between that and the 22A with a RDS

That is a Sweet Deal

still seeing the stainless guns dropping a little in price, but the blued guns, especially the older ones are definitely going up. I couldn't bring myself to ask to hold the 4 inch .41 mag smith in teh show case at a local shop. I knew if I held it, I'd have to have it. I didn't have $1200

In truth, I prefer stainless steel

I've been paying more attention to the Smiths for sale since reading this thread. Saw a 629 for $725, considering they were selling for over $1000 not long ago, that's not bad. Then this morning some one posted a Model 60, no dash for $700. It was nice and clean, just don't see $700 in a 38 snubbie that they made a ton of. I guess teh market will bear, what the market will bear

This is nice. The 629 is on my list of Fantasy Guns. I want the 686 first. :)
