I'm almost out of WSPP, so looking at options. I have a couple cases of Wolf SRP.
It is common practice for folks to use SRP in 9mm major. I'm considering just using SRP in major and minor loads.

Anyone ever use SRP in place of SPP?
Do you have both of your hands still?

I accidently loaded some 9mm Luger rounds with SRP instead of SPP. I did not blow off my hands because quite a few of them would not fire with several striker-fired pistols. I did not have a hammer-fired pistol with me and do not know if one would have fired those rounds. The ones that did actually fire seemed to be fine. I do not load to the max and do not know whether the pressure was increased any.

You just want to trade? I could use the SRP.

From what I have been told is that the Small Rifle Primer is equal to a Small Pistol Magnum Primer. If you are not loading at top of the ladder I do not see any real problems, IMHO.

I prefer them in 9mm major so I'm gonna hold onto em'. Plus the wolf SRP are no longer imported so they are pre-ban.
(7gr WAC, needs a big flash to get going!)
Pre-ban primers, I like it.

I have seen CCI Small Rifle (#400) primers used in 9mm. I don’t remember the load precisely but it was being used for minor PF, not subs/plinking ammo

As others have said they will work but not all guns with ignite them. They will be like CCI+ SPP IMHO. I have a box of 2 that got mixed into a batch of S&B SPPs I bought from Cabelas. I could not tell if it was my fault or theirs so I just kept them. I used them to load for my CZ Scorpion.

One difference between SRP and SPP primers are the hardness of the cup, so some guns (especially ones that have reduced hammer or striker springs) may have trouble setting off the rifle primers. There is a difference in the primer compound itself, the SRP is supposed to be somewhat closer to the magnum pistol primers - more "spark" to ignite powders that may be a little hard to ignite.

FWIW, I am one of the crazy people that like to use the small primer 45acp brass, and I have done a lot of comparison between primers. As a result, I will NOT use regular SPP in my 45acp, I only use small magnum pistol primers, or small rifle primers. None of my guns have a problem setting those off, and I get much closer to the same performance I would get with large pistol primers. (I don't care what anyone says, I've proven that there IS a difference between small and large primers in 45acp).

Based on what I have actually observed I would not hesitate to use small pistol magnum primers, or small rifle primers, in place of regular small pistol primers, if that is all that is available. But, I would work my loads up starting with the min published charges, just as I would do with any new cartridge, or bullet, or powder. I hardly ever load for max velocity anyway.
