The title is a little misleading...it's not that the SSBC's future is in question; it's more that they may cut back on the number of classes they run per year. To that end the recon community is considering standing up their own S/S program, which is a good idea.

Limit course attrition.........dumb down...............????
Yep... I know that they were discussing the Stalk Evolution in particular at one time... but given how the Military has only realized they needed a Sniper School after they got rid of it and find themselves needing Snipers.... It's Par for the Course.

So...they reduce the number of classes per year, and then they stand up this RSC, literally create a second school, to make up the shortfall. So in the end, it does not appear there will be much of a reduction in personnel trained, just now there are different schools, one for regular crayon eaters and one for crayon eaters that like to play hide and seek with their crayons before they eat them.

I dont see what they get out of this other than the reconnaissance community gets their own course...something they have probably been wanting for a looooong time.

SF went this way, too, no? SOTIC and SFARTAETC. Leaves the Benning classes open to others. I am little surprised The Corps did not do this a long time ago.

Stalking is what fails most students (for the MC course, anyway). The Corps never got rid of the course, but pushed it down to divisional level and had a plus one at Quantico. They are redesigning a whole new MOS and career field for Marine S/S so the course isn't going to go away.

Take out the stalking phase, reconnaissance, and >700 range, you have the Corps' DMR course.

Yes...SF has had their own "target interdiction" courses since the 80's.
