Hey guys, I've gotta have a C&P exam related to sleep disturbances/ insomnia soon. Have any of you had to do such exam specifically related to sleep disturbances? Did you have to do a sleep study?

I ask because given our current situation with a new baby and a toddler that's OBSESSED with dad, sleeping anywhere besides home for a night sounds like a shit show for the wife. More or less looking for what to expect at this specific appointment.

I've had several C&P exams over the last coupla years. But none for sleep issues. The C&P exams are subbed out to an independent company.
If I had to guess I'm thinkin it'll be more like an interview at the actual C&P Exam but they'll prolly request that you get a sleep study done.
Mebbe you can try to get a home "auto-pap" test done if you're currently using CPAP or something like.
Not knowing any more than I do that's a WAG based on my experience.
Do watch yer mail as they have been bad for just sending a letter that'll state they've been trying to get in touch with you but couldn't so they just went ahead and scheduled the appointment. Sometimes it's pretty short notice.
I can tell ya that the company I've had to deal with (QTC?) has never let go of the mask mandates.

the home one isn’t accurate, a buddy took it and said he was gtg then his wife had him get a legit one at a place which showed me has it.

For me, when I was having sleep apnea issues it was in 2020, Covid had shut down everything getting an appointment at the VA was non existent. So I went the private insurance route, paid my deductibles, got the sleep study on a day that worked me for me, then made my claim for sleep apnea and showed them the proof that it’s been on sleep machine for x2 years. Of course they denied it first round, but I appealed and waiting for them to send me to somewhere to discuss it since the first was just some random doctors office they found the day of in Garner

I did a sleep study at the Fayetteville VA, 10pm until I woke up at 0200. They said they had more than enough data. VA denied my Sleep Apnea claim, I appealed, I went to my appeal appointment in Salsbury and had a VA doc ask me 3 or 4 questions, look at my sleep study, and told me to have a nice day. 3days later I got approval and a 20% increase in my Disability.

All in all it was another Keystone Cops clown show dealing with Uncle Sucker…

Will they take a sleep study done by a regular doctor or do you have to do one for the VA ? I never want to do another one if I can help it; that was a miserable night.

FWIW I just got issued a new CPAP setup and they didn't even look at any of that.
Up until last year they were saying they wouldn't supply me with a CPAP machine.
This year, "Here ya go"..
Sometimes I think it depends on the mood of who yer asking. 🥴 🤣

I had a sleep study completed outside the VA by a sleep clinic. When I was having all my sinus/sleep apnea/breathing problems, and they decided to do the deviated septum surgery to try to alleviate my issues, the doctor used the result of my sleep study to justify the surgery for the VA to cover.

After the surgery when I got MRSA, and they told me I had to get a new CPAP which the VA would cover. They had me send my sleep study results to them again and they are supposedly reviewing it now. Once they get done reviewing it, they are suppose to send my referral to the place I got my CPAP machine from the first time around to pick it up and get the machine to clean it as well.

Need to call Monday to check on it

My cardiologist at the VA is puttin me in for an Inspire consult.
Sounds interesting thus far.
I've been on CPAP since 94. It would be nice to not be dependent on the machine. 🤠

They discussed that with me as well, granted I’ve only been on CPAP since late 2021. Sounds legit but they had a few more things they wanted to try before we went that route

I dunno, if that thing malfunctioned it could cause your tongue to flick in and out of your mouth...

Well the VA denied my appeal for sleep apnea, mainly cause I had to cancel my C&P exam cause I was sick and then couldn’t reschedule in timely fashion cause I was in hospital for MRSA from were the VA did my deviated septum surgery.

So now im in the process of appealing their denial. I’m going to wait a little while, mainly cause I’m a twist of irony I’ve got an appointment Monday with Durham VA for neurology & sleep…..get a new CPAP machine for my sleep apnea which one doctor said while I was in the hospital was worsened due to my sinus issues, anxiety/depression, and problems losing weight cause of my knee/back issue, all of which I’m service connected for.

Can't make this crap up.
