VA sheriff will deputize thousands

The right to carry firearms is one thing but giving a whole county the power of arrest will be interesting to say the least.

couldn’t be any worse then the situation that would happen if they started kicking in doors seizing weapons. But I agree, probably not the best idea.

I don't know about that. He did say something about checking them out. Presumably if you have a concealed permit, that would be a good enough check.
So let's say thousand of permit holder are carrying and have arrest powers. How many Feds or HPs have to show up to overcome that?

There are a lot of places that have reserve/auxiliary type of officer positions that are basically glorified crossing guards - they are part of the PD but they don't have ANY of the powers that a full officer does. They have limited powers and mostly only when in the presence of a real officer.
I'm all for that. I'd like to have one of those spots myself just for the limited privileges you might get...
