Hi friends!

I've been wanting to buy a full size 1911 for a long time. I used to own a full size Sig but I traded it away because, at the time, I told myself that 1911s "aren't my thing". But ever since that day, I've been trying to fill the 1911 void.

So, off and on, for the last 2 years I've been looking for a full size replacement... But, I didn't just want another 1911. I wanted a better one... I wanted something with a longer barrel. I wanted something with more bells and whistles. And, I have been thinking I'd like to try out 10mm.

Yesterday, a buddy asked me if I'd like to go with him to check out a gun store that I've never been to before.

So, this is where today's story begins... When we arrived, I had a pocket full of cash I've been saving, and I went straight to the 1911 case. I held and dry fired Colts, Kimbers, Sigs, Rock Islands, and one Remington... Some were single stack, double stack, 9mm, .45, 10mm, 6 inch barrel, 5 inch barrel, railed, not railed. They all felt fine, but none of them excited me; until the guy said, "Oh yeah, I've got a used TRP down here, I think. "

He came walking back with this "used" Springfield TRP Operator in 10mm with a six inch barrel, rail, range bag, box, accessories, manual, adjustable night sights, and three mags (two Springfield and one Wilson Combat).

As soon as I saw it I knew it was the one I had always wanted.

Price tag said "Used - $1350 plus tax"

I asked him for the "best" price he could do... The manager said I could have it for $1300, out the door, not tax. I told him, "If you throw in a box of ammo it's a deal."

I gave them $1300 and walked out with all this. Did I do good?

Sexy!!! Or as our friend from chat would say....wooooooooooooooo!

Pretty decent of him to throw in a box of good PD ammo.

You'll like the 10mm. I've got a Delta Elite that would take more than it's really worth to tempt me to sell it. When I carry it on special occasions, it holds Black Talons. They're reserved for when you only care to send the best.

So, did he do well?

According to GunBroker, he did fine. There are some that sold for less, but they have to pay shipping and a transfer fee.

I paid a little less for my Dan Wesson Pointman 7 10mm, and I love it! I'm sure you will enjoy that'n.

New MSRP approx $1850 ... street price $1500–$1550 plus tax which would add another $100 or more so you are $300-$350 or 20% less for what appears to be a very lightly used one plus an extra Wilson mag and box of non-FMJ ammo ... personally I’d say you did pretty dang good!

Well, the important thing is that my wife thinks i got a good deal. I brought it home and showed it to her.

She said, "Very pretty. How much did you pay for that?"

I said, "$400 out the door. No tax and a free box of bullets."

She said, "Ok. Too bad you couldn't get him down to $350. But $400 doesn't sound too bad."

:rolleyes::D;)

Anybody know how to contact his wife? I’d like to offer her the chance to make a quick $100 on that $400 gun.

She'd probably take it and then brag to me that she made $100. Haha.

Meh...you spent the money you earned on something that sends a tingle up your leg. Everything else is details that don’t matter. Shoot the beast and love it.

Well now we know what we can buy it for when you die... :D

I just got home from the TRP's first range trip. It is a wonderful shooter. The recoil was much less than I was expecting. Most of my handguns are .45acp, and this 10mm pistol (with its extra length and mass) felt just like any other .45acp.

I did have one failure to feed, though, which made me sad. Half way through one magazine, it ejected a spent round and cycled the next round only half way into the chamber. The slide had stopped about a half inch short of going fully into battery. I barely touched the back of the slide and it popped the round completely into the chamber and I kept firing.

Maybe the pistol needs to be broken in. Maybe i should have put more oil on it... Either way, it shot great before and after that one hiccup.

Yesterday, my daughter helped me build a cheap sawhorse and we hung some steel gongs from it. It's 4 feet tall and 8 feet wide and it falls apart for easy transport to the range in the bed of my truck. It worked really well today!

And, if the boards get shot up, over time, you just replace the board and keep on shooting...

Oh man... I was hoping no one would see the trampoline in the background. I need to drag it off into the woods.

We got it brand new and the kids loved it. Then, the second hurricane came through. It picked it up, flipped it, and dropped it back down in the yard... As you can see, it's now bent and permanently broken. It just sits in the yard, unused, taunting me, and saying, "Look at me! I'm an eye sore and too big to take to the dump. What are you going to do with me?"

Yeah, we all kinda noticed the whole playground as a backstop thing going on. There's a whole convo going on. We were debating whether to mention something to you. Consensus was, when someone is digging a hole, let 'em keep digging.

Hey, what are friends for?

Apparently it's never seen a sawzall with a metal cutting blade. Turn that thing into a pile of short tubing in no time.

Also, nice 10mm.

I did some timed drills with a loaner 10mm, was about 25% slower with it than my 9mm (in multi-shot strings of fire). The recoil isn't bad, it's just noticeable.
