Today while at a gun show a guy that claims to be sponsored by Sig for optical, Federal and has a precision build shop around Savannah said that he loads his 6.5 CM around 2900 ft/sec. I questioned him about that and he still claims that the 6.5 in anything between 140 to 147 grn is nowhere close to max potential unless you are at 2900+ ft/sec.
Got home and none of my manual show anything close to that velocity. Most loads with that weight bullet are around 2550 to 2650 ft/sec. There is no way that I am going to load over max that my manuals show.

What velocity are you loading a 140 grn bullet?

Most people have found that the loading manuals are very conservative in their number for the 6.5 and have pushed well beyond max listed loads with no pressure signs. Most load data I see people posting have them running 2700-2800. Some people are pushing to 2900 out of longer barrels but that is definitely a hot load.

Haven't got to Chrono. Doing it this Thursday. Won't be as fast as I had hoped for. With the group my rifle shot with 140ELD'S, I'm not going to change it. 40.4gr of h4350 out of a 26", I'll post back my velocity Thursday.

I was at .5" with the 147's with 41.6 gr of powder, I tried the 140's, did final testing today and got freaking excited and yanked the last round in excitement to hurry and go get my target lol.
Not counting my pulled round, that's 4 shots at 100 yards, .351" under 40.4gr of h4350

If you are at 40.3 you'll have another node around 1-1.5 grain.

Good shooting!

Ill try some hotter loads later on. I bought the american gunner ammo and pulled a bunch of those 140gr BTHP match bullets, i want to use them and try and find a load. The 140 ELD's are around $40 a box, and the BTHP Match 140's are $26 a box at my local store.

I run 140's at 42.3 grains at 2790. Get some rounds and go up 0.5 grain to find when you get cratering/heavy bolt lift

You need to talk to Blue Collar Reloading about 140 ELD-M's. $40 is SKY HIGH.

Is he a member here? His shop is 50 min away from me. I currently travel 12 min. I looked online but after shipping, they're all around $40. I feel like it's pretty pricey too, which is why I was going to try some of the 140 match bthp they offer for almost half

I believe so but just call or email them. They work all the gun shows. Brendon is great guy and his wife.

Looking in to SMK...seriously loose BC but still hella accurate. We are having big issues finding Berger Hybirds since they teamed up with Federal and moved facilities. Most of us have switch to SMK. For my Dasher I had to switch to 107smk.
