Very interesting CLP test!

I did my own test back in 2013:

The Bar Of Justice- Firearms Oil Extreme Rust Protection Test Part 1: Application & Burial

I wish he would’ve also done some full synthetic motor oil as a control.

I’m not surprised by Frog Lube’s anti corrosion performance. I’ve seen that stuff do wonders on light-to-mildly rusted guns that were cleaned up.

I haven't watched this one yet but that guy has some pretty good videos.

I've used the Clenzoil for years, it's good stuff. I was surprised it froze up at -40, but of it ever gets that cold I'll be frozen too. Not surprised the Frog Lube did best after high heat, though.

Its a friggin' conspiracy! Where are the Fire Clean results?!?

I've been using Break Free for a long time. The corrosion test surprised me, I saw a test years ago & it did very well. I wonder if they changed the formula, it used to have a sweet smell.
Never heard of Clenzoil, it's impressive.

That was one really good test.

So with a CLP, do you not have to clean it off well after using? I always use hoppe's to clean, then get every ounce of it off as I can, then lubricate if a part like a BCG.

best thing about weather getting down far into the - range is that you're not likely to run into a whole lot of threats in most places!
of course, at that point the place is your biggest threat, so you takes your chances...

I was stationed in Alaska, nothing like doing aircraft maintenance when it's -20 or lower...

It's my understanding that BF has changed the formula several times over the years.

How can anyone do a corrosion test and not include Corrosion-X? It typically wins or ties as the winner in these tests. It's made by a company that makes corrosion protection for marine infrastructure like bridges, etc. They kind of know what they're doing.

Although it says it's a CLP, I use it for everything except cleaning bores because as far as I know it doesn't dissolve copper.

This is what I used to use until I bought the big spray bottle and realized it's the same stuff. They also make a thicker product as a cosmoline alternative.

Would love to see Weapon Shield, Lucas Oil CLP, and LPS-1 in on this.

It seems to me the conclusion is…

Use dedicated products for cleaning, lubrication and protection.

Yeah, I'm an old Southern boy. I lived in Arizona for a while back in the late 70s. Our room mates were all Alaskans who headed South for the winter. They worked on framing crews in Phoenix and headed back home to work on the pipeline in the spring. I have been up there a couple of times, the place is incredibly beautiful and the fishing is unbelievable, but it starts to snow around the end of August. Guess you could get used to that kind of weather if you grew up there.

My wife bought me a giant tube of TW25b back in like 2014. She dug through my junk on the gun bench and found a sample tube that came with a Sig I bought around then. Used that as a stocking stuffer gift idea and went big. I'll be using this stuff for the rest of my life and whoever picks through the stuff I leave behind is going to be able to will it to his children too.

I am a firm believer that the key missing is that actually using cleaner/lubricant is far more important than specifically which one is used. I like ballistol for how easy it is to apply and it cleans well. I also don’t have to worry about it harming the wood on my firearms.

A few years ago I tried out weaponshield and fell in love with it. It seems to work well for me, both the grease and the oil.

But I still contend that regular maintenance with any semi-decent cleaner and lubricant is far more important than anything.

TW25b is what my riflesmith uses for a grease so I do too. My bud in Flo Rida sent my that link about a week ago. I always enjoy seeing these tests. I personally dont use CLP type products except in an emergency. I have an aerosol can of some brand CLP in my vehicle as part of a bug out kit. I have a qt spray bottle of break free clp that a bud gave me 20 yrs ago. I guess if I live that long, i'll have it 20 yrs from now.

well, your wood furniture can be cleaned with mayonnaise.
not something that Looks Like mayo, but real-deal mayo.

This company, X-1R, has a gun oil and reel grease but never was able to put the capital into marketing. Here is an older test run by an associate they had in Malaysia or the Philippines.

One problem is that they made a one pound container of reel grease, that could double as gun grease, that would last a lifetime.

X-1R makes a lubricant that helped get the Space Shuttle from the hanger to the launch pad.
