So my son has Tetralogy of Fallot which is a heart condition. It was corrected with open heart surgery when he was 3 months old.

This winter we were contacted by duke medical and asked if we wanted him to attend the heart condition week at victory junction gang.

I’ve heard a lot about the place over the years. All of it good. So we said yes. Today is the day @Chdamn's Wife and I are dropping him off for the week. Man this place is incredible.

Everyone working here is super nice. The security is impeccable. Hard rules about 2 counselors alone with kids never one. Terminable offense.

They even gave me a pin code for pick up when we come to get him.

Oh and all of it is absolutely free. Paid for by donations.

Kyle and Pattie Petty started the Victory Junction Gang Camp for chronically ill children in Randleman, N.C. in 2004 in memory of their son Adam, who was killed in a racecar crash in 2000. The camp serves nearly 4,000 chronically ill children at no cost to them or their families.

Check in took about 3 and a half hours. Very cool set up. Camp counselors all seemed to really love helping the kids.

The reason for the long check in time is because they go over everything for these kids. Medicine, nutritional needs and then they sat down and asked us other questions to get to know what type of kid yours is. How they learn, how they interact with other kids etc.

There was a teddy bear and a blanket on each bed the kids get to keep.

We said goodbye and he was off to the indoor sports program talking a counselors ear off that had played minor league hockey.

Awesome to hear more about this program first-hand from someone I trust to call it like it is. I've never heard anything but great things about the program and look forward to a detailed follow up later.

I don't want to be pre-mature in saying this but...……..we may be able to provide some accurate information on the forum here later for those CFF members who could use the info for making donations to keep things in motion for the Victory Junction program.

I'm just one of the ones who believe that good-hearted people will give to support credible and effective programs for children and youth when the opportunity arises.

When I first moved to NC, I worked for Richard Petty. Through events at work, I got to meet Richard and Kyle. They are some of the most generous people in the world. I was at Richard Petty’s house, and got to see Kyle jumping on a trampoline with kids, and them just spending time with people that worked for them.

The following year I went to Kyle Petty’s farm and watched Lynyrd Skynyrd play for the Ride Across America where he raised money for the camp.

They are a very good family for sure.

Keep us posted on how he likes it
Good things those Petty's are doing for kids, especially good to hear first hand accounts

this is one of the charities to which we contribute.
we look for local organizations (instead of national/international).
it consistently gets good evaluations concerning how the money is used.
i think they deleted the "Gang" part of the name several years ago.

We've recently begun taking Arya to Gigi's Playhouse in Raleigh. They are a free, volunteer and donation driven achievement/learning center for kids and adults with Down Syndrome. Voluntaryism in action...... I love it.

Heading off topic here, but my daughters used to volunteer at Joy Prom. It was always a great event for both the volunteers and the guests. I think it is February each year.

He’s going to have a blast @Chdamn @Chdamn's Wife

Every year during the summer, many teams volunteer a day up there and do pit stop demos. The kids get to play around on their car with similar tools we use. When the kids get around eachother they seem to forget why they’re there (which is a good thing). You can tell they genuinely have a fun time.
