Give me an AR-10...The M14 should have never been adopted, the FAL should have been the rifle. It won the trails against the M14, but the army was to stupid ans stuck in it's ways.
I agree, but dang the M14 is dead sexy. Something about it just gets me.
I just wasted 1/2 hour on gunbroker. Took me that long to realize I still couldn't afford one ,heh.
I'd be happy with a basic one with green stock. I am easy!
I finally broke down and picked one up last year and haven't regretted it even though I had to put off a vacation to cover the cost. Check the prices at Sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com, you can occasionally find a good deal with free shipping. Usually the standard models are under $1300 although they go in and out of stock so you want to keep an eye on them. Brownell's has the mags real affordable and even better if you use coupons and eBates, I got 5 of them for $100. Ammo is cheapest it's been in years as well so your window of opportunity is wide open.

I have one. It's fun to shoot. I enjoy the irons more then any other.
As a Service Rifle in matches NRA/CMP I find it more fun then a AR15.
I shot mine once in a Carbine class. Think of all the up drills and controlled pairs and such .

I'd take an AR10 or a FAL but most definitely the FAL or M14 over the AR10, because ARs aren't special. They work, they are accurate but they aren't special, unique, sexy, nostalgic, or in my opinion bad ass no matter how much crap you bolt on to them. Walnut is sexy. Plastic is an STD.

True, but the M14 or the M1A is still a pig. In all ways a pig is a pig. A G3 / FAL is hands down a better 7.62mm rifle then the M14 ever could be.
The idea of the best of the best in the M14 like was the M21 and that my friend was a shanty town compared to the M110. And the M110 is a horses ass in the SASS world.

Single action shooting society? They use m110 in sass? No mention of the SR-25?

I've owned an Armalite AR10, multiple FALs, and 2 M14s fwiw I only retain an M14 (scout length)
AR10 not bad but not impressed, FAL is a robust beast of a battle weapon (I mean they are built like tanks) but unwieldy
M14 handles/feels just right ymmv

18" M1A is sweet and the best design mod on the family.
The SR25 is the modified AR10. The 80's and 90's SR25's we're pigs too. I have a old friend that would carry 3 extractor's and pins in his pocket when in combat .he could replace it faster then most could reload a M60 with the bolt forward.

I cut my teeth in NRA highpower shooting an M1A so it has a special place in my heart. Mine started off life as a loaded model and then was eventually upgraded through its life to a double-lug supermatch
I dragged it out of the safe and shot it at the M1A match at Camp Perry last year for the first time in a while. It just made me realize how unforgiving that rifle is without a solid position.

Safe was open so I had to...custom build, mostly GI on a Polytech receiver
