Anyone else running one of these? I had always read about them and never really put much stock into it until I shot a friends awhile back. Had a pinned 14.5” midlength with the system and recoil was almost non existence.

Then recently stumbled across an ad for sale of a bunch of them on ar15 from a fellow Tar Heel. Bought one to try out and though I haven’t got to fire it in my rifle, hoping to get same results since I’m using similar set up to my buddy.

Already starting to buy components for a second one to try out on a pistol build whenever that time comes

No experience but done some research. I’d be curious to know what you think.

I noticed noticeable difference between my midlength 14.5” pinned with h2 buffer and his with a5 system hence why I bought this set up now

Looking forward to doing some testing

This might help.

A5 info
I run amphibian's suggested combo of a Tubb spring, Kynshot RB5007 buffer and A5 tube on a lower that is a DIAS host. The upper is usually a 14.5" with an Osprey piston and the gun shoots very smooth and flat with a noticeable reduction in cyclic rate - I love it. I've also run my 300 Black Out upper on it with great results.

If you can find this PSA buffer tube it is the same length as the A5: PA10 308 buffer tube, 6 position #506797 for $19.99. I don't see them listed any longer but at the time it was a cheap alternative to the Vltor A5 tube.

I have used the A5 buffer system for suppressed mid length gas system rifles to help slow down the cycling time. overall I like every aspect of the A5 except the inability to fully collapse some carbine stocks can be slightly annoying. For suppressed rifles the A5 makes sense as it allows the benefits of a rifle length spring, which maintains more consistent spring tension especially during unlocking. full auto or burst modes are clearly where the A5 would really shine in terms of enhancing reliability. For non-suppressed semi auto rifles (ie the vast majority of shooters) I don’t see much need for the A5 system at all.

strange issue but I had a springco green spring fracture near the buffer after only about 400 rounds. The rifle was very overgassed and I was using an A5H4 buffer. Still it was concerning enough for me to stop suppressing that particular rifle and go back to regular carbine receiver extension. I took photos but haven’t yet reached out to springco…I probably should.

I have one on one of my ARs (14.5 middy, BCM Comp). I’m not sure if I can really tell a difference; but two buddies that shot it say they can. I’m not sure if it’s the mid-length or the comp or the A5 or the combo.

I’ve heard some guys (including a USPSA GM that also shoots a lot of 3gun) say that an adjustable gas block with comp and JP silent capture spring really do the trick.

Different ways to kill recoil. A5 being the least effective overall imo.
But every bit helps and if someone likes it, that’s good enough.

I have no need for it in my semi-autos which have practically zero recoil already.
If you want zero recoil, correct gas flow and muzzle device selection will get you 95% of what you can attain. Lower mass bcg/recoil system gets you the rest.
Just my opinion.

Got one on 11.5 5.55. I can feel a big difference. Eventually will have one on every AR.

I have them on all my ARs but only because I am a taller person and like how the ARs fit my body with them installed.

I think I mentioned this in another thread about this, but I generally consider the A5 system as a way to make the gas system "more forgiving" for things like variances in ammo, running suppressed vs un-suppressed. 5.56 in general doesn't have a lot of recoil, and I think the A5 system can generally cut a bit off, but I prefer the A5 system for increasing flexibility in types of ammo to run and such.

I researched the A5 a while back and couldn't see the logic of investing in one.
After I tuned my AR10 with an H3+ buffer and a Surefire brake with a Warden, there was no need.
I like anything VLTOR, but the A5 didn't impress me enough to take the jump.
