I've been doing some reading, but it looks like Netflix is pretty successfully blocking access to US servers even with VPN use. Is this true? Is there any good workaround? I'd like to have access to some movies/shows again.

Sounds like they are blacklisting US based VPN providers.

One way around that would be to use SSH to effectively VPN to a PC at your home. To Netflix it would look like you're watching from your house.

I'm confused. Why not turn off the VPN when using Netflix?

The purpose of the VPN is to make it look like you're streaming from inside the US.
As I mentioned above, they're probably also blocking known VPN address blocks for this very reason. All the more reason for you to be the gray man.

I assume you're running Windows so try running OpenSSH (server): https://winscp.net/eng/docs/guide_windows_openssh_server and then couple it with a free dynamic DNS service like https://www.noip.com/free. Obtain a free hostname and use it to point back to your home computer running SSH and then tunnel all your web traffic through your home computer, which will be your apparent location.

I'll check this out thanks!

Idk much about SSH,but would my home computer need to be stationed inside the US for this to work?

Because my home is overseas at the moment.

Yes it would. It can be a real simple box but you would need one running that you could connect to. One other thing that you need to do is add a "port forward" in your router. SSH runs on TCP port 22 by standard but some people move it to better hide it. What you would do is tell the router to allow incoming traffic on port 22 and then to send it to the IP of the machine you're running the SSH server on.

You can download a lot of Netflix content now. It is very helpful when i travel to China.
I suggest downloading both seasons of Frankenstein Chronicles if you haven't seen it yet.
Requiem is also good.
If you haven't seen Mind hunters or the Unabomber series, add those.

You can stream most of the networks over a VPN connection.

Which VPN do you recommend? I've seen ExpressVPN and NordVPN are both highly recommended.

I use Vyprvpn. But echoes gets too ratings too.
A guy that owns an internet security company and has testified before Congress uses Vypr.
Works well in places that block the common protocols. China blocks OpenVPN and most of the known protocols.
Vypr has a VPN BLOCKER BLOCKER built is to its proprietary protocol.
I'm using it now in China.
