Wanting to bulk load 223 in near future.

Why does he say not to use a powder slower than 4895? Especially when Varget, RE15, CFE223, and BLC2 all get such great results and they’re slower than 4895?
Has to do with port pressure. Its a little over my head but hes right on about 55 gr an RE#7. AR's in general are over gassed and mil spec/commercial ammo like the 55gr Fiocchi thats on sale are over powered. 3250fps MV is not necessary and not conducive to accuracy and it beats hell out of the gun.

I started using 75gr Hornady BTHPs over 69gr SMKs/Nosler CC. Considerably cheaper and the meplats are generally perfect compared to the SMK/CC bullets.

I prefer 77gr Tipped Matchkings and 73gr ELDs though but that’s far beyond cheap bulk loads

I'm still working to get my beloved 73ge ELD-M's to shoot well out of my JP upper. I need to tweak the 8208 XBR charge weight a little more as I'm close.

The 73grs will NOT shoot in any other AR I own unfortunately. :(

I've also got about ~750 of some bulk 75gr Hornady BTHP's I'm still searching for a 8208 XBR load for. :(

Lee 1000 at brownells is around $200 and comes with everything if using new brass.

23.6gr of 8208 is what I use with 8208

24.0gr RE15 for the 73gr ELD

I could maybe understand that if A) all ARs had the same gas system and port sizes AND B) those slower powders produced so-so results. But neither is true, especially nowadays. In fact, gas systems in quality barrels are made with port size and gas return in mind, and adjustable gas systems are all the rage. Not to mention I’ve got more than a little experience with CFE223, RE15, Varget, and 8208 making tiny groups out of tiny holes on targets.

I know this isn’t YOUR info but I really feel that may be outdated info all the same

Yeah, none of my AR rifles liked the 23.2-23.6gr 8208 XBR node with 73/75/77 bullets, WTF?! o_O I'm going to go down to 22.0 and up to 24.4gr. RE15 is a future possibility.

Dang. Looked up my data, and 23.2 was the sweet spot for me with Hornady 75 bthp. 20" 1:8.

23.2gr also grouped well for me but I went with 23.6gr for the added velocity since the groups were the same

@Bunsen It’s over Max, but I think I got as high as 24.0gr of 8208 with no pressure signs or ejector swipes etc. But be careful because I’ve heard with 8208 when pressure becomes an issue, it’s fast. Not like a continual creep with deepening craters or worsening swipes. It’s like “nothing nothing nothing TOO HOT”

jimmyjames8. i have a 650 as well, i agree, i load for accuracy not speed. can't tell you how many times i've been asked, "how many rounds per hour"

don't load quantity.
