Calling experts
It has factory side mount thingee/plate
I who makes the best that is quick detachable?
I prefer as low as possible, don’t need simultaneous use of irons
Rail for standard optics is desire, one on top no side extras for lights etc. needed unless the best one has it included...
Midwest? Or is there better?
Thanks!

Buy once, cry once. Don't cheap out and settle for a UTG, AIM Sports, or no-name eBay Chinese knockoff. Spend the money on an RS Regulate (sometimes they have cosmetic blems on their website at deep discounts) or check out Midwest Industries. Both are great, rock solid options. For what it's worth, I have eight or nine RS Regulate mounts and one MI mount, and that MI mount lives indefinitely in a parts bin. RS Regulate FTW.

You have an excellent Romanian rifle, but if you want to reach full-speed, hardcore Spetsnaz operator status (and have some deep pockets), check out Zenitco.

I've got a cheap one you can have if you want it. It's pretty much new and mounted up pretty well. At the least you'll decide if you like the style of mount.

One advantage the RS has over pretty much all the other ones is the upper/lower setup allows adjustment to get it in line with the bore.

It didn't fit??

Did you make sure the latch was in the open position before sliding it on? Did you loosen the nut at all? Did you try removing the screw completely and then sliding it on? Did you try tapping it with a rubber mallet? If not, I'd try all of these things before trying to sell it.

These mounts lock up real tight - sometimes factory gun finishes (or "custom" Bubba paint jobs...) will prevent the mount from sliding on easily. Using a mallet to nudge it on will help smooth everything out.

It may need some fine tuning. If it’s too loose you push against the spring in the bottom and then turn the bolt on the bottom in a little at a time until it locks on tight when you cam it over. It’s very easy.

Ok. Looking at your ad, looks like the 310 model is intended for the PSL rifles, and doesn’t fit the wasr, so I guess no amount of adjustment would make it work. My bad.

Now I’m wondering why it is working, shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth?
It is an older 10-63
Feels solid as a rock, I’ll try to put top rail on now

It isn’t as tall as it should be, upper rail was rubbing on dust cover

Wow insane amounts of dremmeling to get it to fit, scope rail can’t be lower, though to get dust cover off scope rail must be pulled, I don’t think I care that level of cleaning is rare on this platform

If it works, it works! I'd have to measure to confirm what I'm about to type, but the reason the upper mount was rubbing on your WASR dust cover might be because the M&M M10/RH10 side rails sit just a tad higher on the receiver than standard AKM configuration. So, the 310 lower mount might be a bit stubbier to account for this.

Side note - your WASR wood looks awesome. I love the dark surplus laminate. Get yourself a good surplus bakelite grip to replace that black plastic junk.

How rugged is the Bakelite vs the plastic one that is currently in place, is bakelite inherently brittle?

I mean, it's been used and abused for decades - from the frozen tundras of Siberia to the sweltering jungles of Vietnam and dried out deserts across the Middle East. It should be just fine for some light stateside range duty ;)

All humor aside, it'll hold up as long as you own it. What most of us call "bakelite" (mags, grips, handguards, bayonet handles, etc.) is actually a nylon-infused plastic called AG4. I'd say it is far more durable than the US-made plastic that is currently on there, and it will hold up to just about anything you can throw at it. It'll scuff but can also be sanded & smoothed, polished, and poly sealed if that's your thing. Bakelite grips are standard surplus material for the AK, and in my opinion really finish off these guns. You can find them all over the internet for as little as a few bucks. If you have Hulk hands, the Poles made a "fat" bakelite grip that's a bit thicker than the standard Romanian and other combloc grips.

Ok cool, sounds different than the old timey beginnings of plastic stuff used in the states years ago
I have seen them on eBay for well under $10 and was going to buy one but was worried about them possibly being brittle
I will indeed pick one or two up

The polish fat Bakelite grips feel nice. They seem just as strong as normal plastic to me. That’s what I have on this gun.

That is very cool though looks off on the side of dust cover not above, I like the lowness though...wonder if optic has enough adjustment left to right to get zero if mounted this way
Left to right adjustment is done where the upper mount meets the lower mount.
