Watch yerself out there...

I've seen two snakes this year, a large King snake down by the river, and a about a 2 foot copperhead that someone had already ran over on our dirt road. Not to mention all the freaking ticks I've found on myself and the dogs. This is going to be a miserable summer.

Beware of those ticks..nasty little critters. Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with red meat allergy (Alpha-gal) that resulted from a Lone Star Tick bite sometime in the past.

I use permethrin and have since about 1990...first saw it and bought it in Texas.

Can't have any meat from four legged critters...can only eat birds and seafood. Can't even eat those if there is a chance they were cooked on the same grill as beef, pork, venison, etc.

Reaction to eating red meat are swelling of facial areas, sinuses, throat, hives, breathing difficulties, etc, etc.

So now I have to carry an EPIPEN with me...$730 for a two-pack.

That sucks man. I'm way more worried about ticks and mosquitos than snakes. Ticks and mosquitos want to bite us. Snakes just wants to be left alone. How long did it take your dr to come to the conclusion you should be tested for that?

Wow I had no idea that was possible. Great, I'd rather have lyme disease.

This is many of us's greatest tick nightmare. Sorry to hear you have to deal with that!

So does the permethrin really work? I have never used it, but am strongly considering it.

Hate ticks with a passion. Need to get a flock of free range guineas at my place. About 15 years ago, I had Rocky Mountain Spotted fever, fortunately was extremely tired and had a tick right at the base of my skull I had found driving home about a week previously, so they tested me. None of the symptoms except for the tiredness, and they treated with standard antibiotics. Was advised, once the symptoms start, you already have organ damage etc. Then last year, felt like I had the flu, without snot. Tired, ached all over, did the Lyme disease test and I tested positive for that, though it appears it is never truly cured. Same antibiotic regime. Turkey hunting is about a guarantee for some deer ticks around the waist or armpits or back of knees. A walk across the yard will usually produce a dog tick. Maybe I should just eat one of the pills I give my dog every month. Have not found a live tick on her since I started her on the Nexguard.

Primary care doc sent me to an allergist. Allergist asked many questions about symptoms I was having...one of which was "every have any tick bites?" My answer of "yes" prompted blood work & analysis. That came back positive for Alpha-gal syndrome. Blood sample taken again couple weeks later and submitted for analysis...came back positive.

This is many of us's greatest tick nightmare. Sorry to hear you have to deal with that!

Thanks!

Hell, I'd rather die!!!! NO MORE RED MEAT!??? Forever?

Not for me! Allergy may go away usually between 5-8 years...unless bitten by another tick.

Yes it does. I use it with out fail when hunting, cutting wood, and similar things. I don't use it when running weedeater, etc. Think I will start though.

Something similar might be available. If not, it should be!

Beef flavored I think...I'm looking for some BBQ chicken flavored
