Watches

Alright, I caved this morning. Are you happy? @Midliferally I was staying away from the watch forums but figured it's been a while since I checked it. This thread reminded me of that.

Omega Geneve automatic 36.5mm BIG BLUE SUNBURST c1012 - 1973 - This is a lovely stunner in great original condition. The original deep blue sunburst dial looks amazing. The crown is original and Omega signed. The watch is a ref 166.0168, powered by an automatic cal 1012 from 1973.

Did you pick it up off Ebay?

Reddit actually. There's a guy who takes road trips across the world looking for watches. He checks the authenticity, looks them over, services them if needed and resells them.

OK amnesia. You paid me back with that link. I see a 1957 Omega thats calling me......
He has a few awesome time pieces calling my name. He's the person who had the air king that I missed.

One of the watches I had is in Hollywood... I had a Chase-Durer UDT that I ended up selling on eBay. It was bought by Dean Georgaris (who co-wrote Tomb Raider Cradle of Life, produced The Life of Pi , and is executive producer of "The Brave". I actually asked him on twitter if he still had the watch and said he still wears it.

I've been putting this Seiko through the paces for the past month. Still need to throw a nato strap on it. I really like the lume. My EDC watches live a hard life, so ill see how this auto holds up over time.

I've had a couple of the Seiko automatic movements. I think you'll be pleased with that watch.

Always wanted a Porsche with Gulf livery colors. I guess this will have to do for the time being. Should be here in a few days....

That nato strap is money on that watch. I missed the delivery of my omega today. So upset! Looks like I will get it tomorrow.

To follow up with post #538 above...the Elgin is at a shop in Cameron Village in Raleigh. I went to my usual jeweler, who is a few years older than me - I'm 53 - and he took one look at those pocket watches and said, "You are going to have to take those to my dad." I'm thinking, "Good grief, man, how old is your dad???" It was a little tough to find the shop, but I walked in and found this rail-thin, tall gentleman with snow-white hair. Turns out he was a watch inspector for the Baltimore and Ohio railroad!! Also turns out it's expensive to have these watches gone over, so I only left the Elgin with him.
Before I went to bed the other night, I unscrewed the back from the New York Standard watch, just to peek inside. I could see the flywheel quivering, but it wasn't running (of course). I could also see the reserve indicator was all the way full - well, you could also tweak the knob and feel that it was wound all the way. I've messed around with mechanical clocks before, and the first gear after the mainspring has the least torque and is the easiest to move. I thought, what the heck...and gently probed around on the first gear in the watch, applied a little pressure...and the watch took off running! Hot dog! I set it, took these movies, put the back on...and three days later, it's still running. I'm having trouble unscrewing the front (I can see the seam), which I would like to do to be able to clean the front some, but otherwise I would just leave it as-is.

I've been battling USPS since Thursday to get my watch. It's supposed to be delivered today but I don't have any faith it will be here.

Watch made it all the way from Belgium just to be held hostage by USPS. It came one day early so I couldn't tell my wife to be on the lookout for it. They left a slip on the door saying I need to reschedule delivery. I went to their website and tried with the number they gave me. I finally was able to get it rescheduled for Friday. It didn't come Friday so I had to reschedule for today. Still nothing and mail typically runs by 11am. I doubt I'll get it today. I called the post office 800 number. The wait was 1 hr. Thankfully, they had the call back feature. The USPS told me I couldn't do anything until after 8PM tonight.

It's after 8pm and I knew that it wouldn't come but the USPS person insisted that I had to wait. Called back at 8pm and the call center closed at 6pm.

Usps is constantly not delivering mail on time. My watch bands were scheduled to arrive Wednesday. They didn't make it till today.

Your tax dollars at work.

Hamilton "Arthur" manual wind Cal 686, 34mm case, 9.5mm thick, 17mm lug width, and 42mm lug-to-lug. Very cool linen pattern on the dial, and retro cool 60's font

In all those boxes full that I had, I didn't see any like that . Nice!
I'm about to list this one. I like it but I need to make room for the one incoming.

I was thinking last night how this thread needed some action. I should have known I could count on my friend Amnesia!
Don’t forget pics of the incoming.....

P.S. I noticed the socks matched the nato strap and dial....

Do those nato or cloth bands stink after a while?
They don't at least not for me. I think you can wash through without the watch of course. Also, they're relatively cheap.

Honey badger and vintage Hamilton Arthur.
