watching auctions on Bringatrailer

An old man once told me "Wanting something is more fun than having it".

Fieldgrade, I think you're living proof.

Nah, I don't think that's it. I have certainly never found that to be the case for me.

People who aren't happy after they get something they wanted didn't know what they really wanted. Ash doesn't really want to have a motorcycle, he just wants to shop for motorcycles. That's ok, there's nothing wrong with that.

Like when people spend a bunch of time restoring a car, then sell it after they finish. They didn't really want the car, they just wanted to restore a car.

This fella selling this Triumph says in his post that he buys them to fix them up to sell them, more as a hobby than anything else.

This TR4 auction started seven days ago and was bid to the current price of $29,000 the same day (plus 5% buyer premium). I was wondering for a minute if maybe he’s hoping someone else will bid in the last ten minutes which is counting down now, but I really think he went "all in" early. That was his first and only bid I believe.

Perfect.
I'd have it if I had the kind of money to have a mechanic on retainer. Or if I were a better wrench myself. Because it will be constant.

Like I said: you will never have more fun driving a car, and you will push it further than no other. I mean, physically get out of the car and actually push it!

@fieldgrade , you’ll fit in this one
You laugh. I started to post that very listing earlier today. :p

I liked to drive large sedans back when they still made them. Olds 98’s (had three), Buick Park Aves (had two), Ford Crown Vics if I was slumming.
I rented Cadillacs on vacation (what few I took) from 1985 till I bought a new one in 2006.

There is another sight named Carsandbids with Doug DeMuro. I'm in the process of listing a 1993 Nissan Sentra SE-R with 33k miles. I had no idea until after I bought it that these little suckers are quite the sleeper.

Here is one that's pretty close to what I have except a 1991.

Sold for $282,000 on 8/23/22
Crazy thing is, the seller bought it on BOT a year ago for $275,000. You see that with a bunch of auctions. Some make a ton of money, some loose money. I'd cruise around in something like that if I knew I would get my money back after a year. Other than early distribution taxes, I would have done better pulling money out of my 401k, buying this Power Wagon and selling it after a year than I did with my -15% personal return in the 401k.

I'm not into motorcycles but this thing is gorgeous.

10 Miles in 4 years.
Has the oil even reached operating temp twice?
What a shame.
Here's what the owner said.

Ford execs really worked hard to create a process where most GTs would go to enthusiasts who would proudly show them drive and show them a lot. A good friend ran that program; he developed the application and agonized over many choices.
When I ordered mine, I was committed to driving to shows and events as intended, at maybe a couple of hundred miles each year. Then it arrived.

By then, Ford had 7,000 credible, committed applications for the 1,000+ cars they would build over 5 years. Demand had spiked to where Hagerty suggested I insure it for twice its sticker price. Suddenly it’s no longer just “a car”, its also “an investment”. So, like many GT owners, I had to look at it differently.

We drive it a lot less than I had planned, but it still gets out now and again, and I really love the car.
So please, let’s stop the Ford bashing, and let’s continue to celebrate these fantastic cars and their caretakers who love them… GLWTA!
