The Containment area temperature forecast is worse than even Columbia SC later this week.

Have mercy.

Tried to get you to move up her but you wouldn't listen to your old dad. :p

We're supposed to hit 93 on thursday. Brutal for us.

We were in West Jefferson and Blowing Rock last weekend and it was just glorious.

Yes it was. How did the Mrs lie downtown W. Jeff?

We had lunch and she shopped. I wandered in an acoustic instrument shop and was impressed with their wares.

The past week or so has been ok considering what summer can do.
And it does cool down nicely at night. Windows open. At least you can sleep.
I'm more worried about August.

Luckily we will be up at Bryson City this weekend. Our son gave us gift certificates to the Nantahala Outdoor Center, so we will be spending the weekend camping and rafting down the river. You guys have fun :D

BTW, we will be staying at the Smokey Mountain Campground. First time there, so is anyone here familiar with the place? If so, impressions?

Personally, at that point I'd rather be in the park. But it's right on Deep creek. That's the one that rents the tubes, correct? Never stayed but driven by it. It's a nice, out of the way area.

My recommendations are as follows.

Eat at River's End beside NOC. My personal preference is one of the Serpa rice dishes. But the pizza and chicken tenders are good too.
Hit the bakery on main street in Bryson City. Cupcakes are AMAZING.
Take a drive on the Road to Nowhere, Riverside Drive, one evening and check out the stars without any lights.
Scoot over to Cherokee one evening to see the elk around the Smokies visitor center.
When you raft, and get towards the end, don't run over the bump (big Momma). One of two places I've been thrown out of a raft as a guide. When you first get in the river stay to the right side of the first rapid, Patton's Run. Rocks are nasty in the middle and on the left. Don't go too far right on Lesser Wesser, the last rapid. Middle or slightly left. Running a raft or a duckie? I spent every Friday for 2 summers guiding on that river. Have fun. And if you don't like cold water, take them up on the wet suit. That water is freaking cold, all the time. One of 2 cases of hypothermia I have seen was on that river in August.

This place is off Alarka Road, looks pretty nice. http://smokymtnmeadows.com/ Thanks for the advice, especially on running the river and places to eat. We will be on a raft, unless my wife gets brave. I figured with it supposed to by 90 degrees + up there in the afternoons the cold water would feel good. Didn't realize it was a cold as you say.

I "might" have worked with the previous owner. I worked ski patrol with a guy that ran a campground on Alarka, that might be it. Great guy, but that host name is not his. His name was Bill. The water will feel great, depending on how much water y0u take into the boat. lol. Not trying to talk you out of it, it's a great river. But yeah, it's cold. They draw the water from the bottom of the lake so it's like a constant 45 degrees when it comes out of the power house. The river is in the 50's year round. And it gets little sunlight down on the river. Nantahala means "land of the noon day sun" in Cherokee. Meaning the sun only gets on the river in the middle of the day for a few hours.

Anthony's Pizza, get it to go and walk down to Nanthala Brewery.
Ice cream at Soda Pops.
I'" be taking your place in the heat, going to visit family in Carthage this weekend. Pick blueberries for some wine, spend time with Dad.

Arghhh! I'm scheduled for 7 hour shift on the range Sat. I am praying few show up to shoot in the 100+ heat and we can close up early. I lost 4 lbs. last week. I can I'll afford to lose much more.

The water IS cold. I had my trips perfected to soak my boats while staying dry myself lol. With the rain we've been getting it will feel great with the heat to get wet. Also good news, all boats are now self bailers so no filling up with water anymore;)

Lots of good advice for places to eat and stay already.

At least it's been raining almost daily here. Things aren't dry as a bone like they have been in years' past.

Yesterday was the first rain we've had since June, I think.

Yes, it's gonna be hotter than hell. But I am very thankful it only hits a couple days then backs down. Nothing like SW states that get to 110 and stay there.

It does get toasty in there. I was shocked to see how many would show up for matches outdoors last summer when it would be in the 90's. I'm going to sit out a match this Saturday with this forecast.

Rode my bicycle 30 miles last night, I start at 5pm. 30 more tonight and tomorrow. I'll ride 50 on Saturday morning. Suck it up buttercups. It's like this every July and August.

This confirms what I have been thinking for several years now.

I'm out east for the day. S'posed to be 103degF in Aurora today.

My claim to fame came in the play Eddie below the bridge and just below the put in at Ferebee. I told the kids to all paddle hard on my command. Right when we made it to the wave I gave the command and pulled hard to turn the boat into the Eddie. Sucked the nose in, water pushed to rear in so fast it stood right up. The kid just to my left got tossed in so fast he was still holding his paddle and staring at my about a foot below the water. Had a great shocked look on his face. Jerked him back in the boat before it floated over him.

Your welcome :)

I'm supposed to start framing on the tiny house Saturday morning... Gonna be a rough weekend...

It was partly a storm that popped up unexpectedly, I think. Temps dropped to the mid 70's during the storm on the drive home.

That's alright, come up and don't say hello! I'm just up the hill a little bit more in Linville most weekends.

Anytime you think it's hot where you are, look at Fayettenam and thank God you're not there....
Talked to a friend who is a CSM at Bragg. He said he was in the field this week, full gear and 100 degrees! It was 74 in Linville and I was grilling brats and drinking beer! He called me an asshole! :D

We just drove up for the day.

Anyway, I thought your place was in TN?

The cabin is. Cindy won't come up there. She says it's too rustic! I bought her a camper and we put it in Linville in May and I pull it home in October. It's set up more permanent than semi permanent. It's just off Hwy 181.

You have a cabin your wife won't go to! You are my freaking hero. And a genius.

I was outside working out this morning at 0530. A billion percent humidity and zero wind. "Sauna" came to mind.

It was 78dF when I left the house at 0600. The bad omen is the announcement of the 2 meter repeater that said it was 82dF at 1200 feet altitude. Hotter air at altitude means today started sucking early.

And a pretty spiffy cabin it is!
