We've been spoiled by great vendors (@knifeman32 cough, cough) and mostly great private sellers who understand the market and pricing their firearms and/or accessories.

I met a member today at a gun shop pkg lot, simply because it's the only landmark I know in his area, to buy some ammo.
After this member and I concluded our business, and chewed the fat a bit, I went inside to just look around.
As expected, prices were high as giraffe...ummm...noses...yeah, noses, on all their new stuff.
I roll around to the used section and lo and behold, there sits a used CZ75B Compact.
Sticker said $489.
First thought through my head: dammit, a brand new one from Backwoods is $30 cheaper.
Second thought: bst will have one at $450, I just gotta be quick enough..
I offered them $450 otd. Not surprisingly, they declined. They didn't think I would walk.
But I did. See ya. I'm one pm away from a much better deal.

I hate ALL you s.o.b.'s for spoiling me lol

Edited for spelling. Beer and keyboards don't mix lol

I agree completely. I feel that as a community we all have somewhat of a shared desire to help each other out. Part of this means being very fair in the BST section. I’ll never hold it against someone for trying to turn a profit, but when you deal with “the core” members are oh have a pretty darn good chance of getting a deal.

Also, it’s easy to find just about anything you need right here!

Ammo, training, Holsters, gear, magazines, firearms, belts...just post up and within no time you have it.

Now...to order ammo for a certain pistol

You did try to buy local, no hard feelings if they say no thanks to any offer that is reasonable.

I felt my offer was reasonable.
But, reasonableness (is that a word?) is subjective lol.
Salesman even commented that he didnt understand why boss man didn't go for it.

Come to think of it, when I got the Mrs her G26, it was on consignment at a local shop.
Marked at 499 plus tax.
Thought that was too high, so I offered 470 otd and their consignment customer took it.
Reasonableness is defimitely subjective.

Great job on killing off the local gun store. That cut you placed is one of the thousands that will be delt.

Overhead, and wholesale pricing can drive dealers to list it a bit more then on here.

I agree if the price is stupid high then pass but for $40 really?

Then you do a deal in the parking lot the store is paying for then come on here and talk junk about it..

Man, no shame.

Great job.

He finds a used gun priced $30 more than a new one. He makes a very reasonable offer and his offer was declined. He is not guilty of killing off a local gun store. In fact, he was going to help the local gun shop. If he had a positive and pleasant experience he would most likely have returned and spent more money with them.

I guess you don't like a "free market"?

"Local Gun Stores" need to adapt with the times. Competition is a never ending constant. Fifteen years ago who knew of the popularity of local gun forums, that point members to deals good and bad? Big local gun stores become bigger thru internet sales (Perrys, Sovereign, etc).

Adapt or die.

Larry Hyatt seems to have figured out how to keep a local gun store in business, even with ridiculously high prices.

Most definitely would have...they had a Shadow 2 in stock I would have come back and dickered over.
And it's not like the experience wasn't positive or pleasant. Matter of fact, as far as declining deals go, it was about as good as it gets. We didnt get it done, but everyone was polite, professional, honest about what we could/could not do, and nobody was pushy. We shook hands and even chatted for a few more minutes after.

Btw...your comment reads like there are comments that were deleted or I cant see above it. Some people take a positive thing...praising our vendors and members...and willfully try to inject drama in it. Happens in a lot of threads with certain members.

In the same sentence he said Backwoods is $30 cheaper. Backwoods is a dealer, and a forum sponsor here. Shaming someone for that is pretty low IMO. But to each his own. Gonna tell us next how Backwoods Bang Shop helped shut down local guys who didn’t know how to treat customers? There’s a reason he’s still in business btw. He knows how to talk to folks, knows how to brush off a crappy offer and not get mad, and isn’t arrogant as hell. All of those are also reasons he sells more guns than anyone in the state.

If whoever is causing this drama cares to go back and look, I even stated in post #5 that I bought a consignment gun from a local shop last week.
Yep...Im killing them off...

Some people only want to focus on the negatives. I hope they find happiness in their lives.

A while back I needed a detent spring for my AR, so I went to the local gun shop where I had bought the Anderson stripped lower about a year earlier. I walked in and they asked what I needed, and they had the spring I needed for a couple bucks and I also asked about if they had any stipped lowers. The salesmen said yes and showed me what he had, Splikes, Anderson and a few others. I asked how much and he said $100 each! What is the cost difference between Spikes and Anderson lower and he said nothing , they are both $100! Now, I had called this shop earlier in the week and got a price on a stripped Anderson and was told $50-$60. I don't remember the exact amount but it was close to what I had seen them advertised for elsewhere. So here I was with money in my pocket, ready to spend it and this guy was trying to jack me on a stripped lower. Granted the Spikes may have been worth the $100 but I knew the Anderson he was willing to sell me for $100 was way overpriced! I said Thank You, Paid for the spring and left!
After the last school shooting and the big push to ban all AR's I figured I needed another stripped lower and about that time I happened to see an ad from a gun shop close by that I didn't even know was there. I went on down to see what they had. stripped Andersons in the $45 range and Spikes in the $75 range. I ended up buying 2 Andersons. I also had 2 guns transferred threw them! I am all for buying local but some gun shops make it very hard to do that! Glad I found a good one!

I have been on the wrong end of this myself.

I agree, you can find some steals on here. As a matter of fact I think I may be addicted to the classifieds but really like the rest of the forum as well. Everyone I’ve ever dealt with on here has been awesome. Usually how it happens for me is, I’ll be looking at buying something and I’ll wait a week or so and cruise the classifieds. When I’ve had enough and can’t wait any longer I’ll buy local or if it’s a lot cheaper I’ll order online. But without fail every time I get a new toy, someone will post it in the classifieds at a much better deal than what I just paid. Sometimes it happens within minutes but almost always within 24/48 hours.

Awesome group of folks.

Agreed. I just turned down a killer deal on a double barreled shotty not because of the price (cause the price was great) but because it was a 300 mile round trip for me. The seller didn't even leave any room on price for me to haggle with him without feeling like a cheapskate. Someone got an awesome deal on a good looking gun.

I feel absolutely no obligation to support local businesses who’s pricing is out of line. I had to work hard for my cash too.

I understand all the expenses they have to cover, so yes, they will be a bit higher than online. But him turning down a local gun store in exchange for another local gun store isn’t a problem. Jarek may not be brick and mortar, but he is a local gun store. And a friend and forum supporter.
