I’ve had this gun for a few years now since my grandfather passed. Never shot and I got to wondering about it. From pictures it appears it may be a “Webley”. The gun is a break action and has a unique hammer from the ones I have seen online. Anyone know anything about this gun? I don’t really have any use for it.

Looks to be a Mk1* variant. Double action only due to the spurless hammer. Should be chambered in .455

Nice looking piece there!

It looks like either a 38/200 Wembley MkIV or most likely an Enfield No2 Mk1* as has been mentioned. Can we see a picture of the other side?

The top of the barrel says “43” possibly the year made? And “cal 38”

Any idea on value? I would be interested in selling it. It appears to be in decent shape considering it was made in 1943.

We love you here Mac...you are wrong...dead wrong. I have a 38 here and it is Far from useless.
It's a modern perspective... I'm tryin' to fit in.

Useless... you know, just like 30-30s and 1911s!

Yours is also had the hammer spur ground off. It was made that way for DAO by the British.
Here's some captured Webley's from Iraq. I used to have a Webley Mk IV in West Germany back in the late 80s. Paid 88DM for it but then ATF wouldn't allow me to import it. Denied my ATF Form 6 Importation permit as war surplus (same denial on my all matching 1939 P08 Luger)

Difference between the two can be seen on the right side of the frame. Webley Mk IV uses 2 screws, Enfield No 2 Mk 1 uses 3 there.

Very interesting. It appears from the pics that mine is the Enfield. In looking over the gun more closely it appears the logo has worn down overtime.

Great information and pics on the Webley, thanks for posting. I'm pushing through watching the old Magnum PI show on Amazon, and noted in the trivia on IMDB for the show the following entry someone made:

"When Magnum's misadventures bring trouble to the Robin Masters Estate, Higgins arms himself with a British Webley Mk-VI .455 caliber revolver. It was a standard British military-issue weapon in both World Wars, so it's reasonable to assume that it was Higgins personal sidearm from his time with the British Army in World War II."

How it could be determined to be a Mk-VI I don't know, and I'm not any sort of expert on the pistol.

For those with interest, the old estate grounds are visible on Google Maps, but the structures were demolished last year.

I sure would like to have one of those unshaven cylinder my Webley.

I have no Idea what it is, BUT, if it is a Webley, I have a box of ammo for it. If you are in the Cary area, it's yours for the asking.

I didn't have much of an attachment to mine but after seeing all those....Ima keep it for a while....

.38/200 British and should be a Webley MkIV. As stated you can fire .38 Smith and Wesson out of it. Sights won't be regulated for the lighter 146 gr LRN as the Brits used a 200 gr LRN.
