Don't think anyone has asked for an ID yet this week. My google sucks, my boy found this timid little (10") guy yesterday. What is it?

We've found 3 or 4 of these little guys in the yard this year.

View attachment 10965 Daughter almost stepped on this yesterday on her run. I went down to catch it to bring home for vole extermination but failed, sadly it was dead on the sidewalk.

You need to whoop up on the person that killed it...
Dead copperheads make me smile :)
Dead helpers make me sad :(

No apparent cause of death, looks like it crawled/slithered onto the sidewalk and just died. I just know that it coulda helped with my vole problems.

This little guy decided to take a swim in my mom's pool yesterday. My 2 dumbass sisters started hollering that it was a copperhead. I scooped him out with the skimmer and my mom wanted me to take him over in the driveway and kill him so he would not come back. Not listening to all of them like normal, I took him out in the woods and let him go. He did flatten his body out and tried to expand his head.

Best I can tell it is a brown snake.

Looks like a dekays brown snake to me. Hognose has more of a perpendicular stripe across its back rather than lengthwise. And is usually a lot thicker

I was outside trimming the grass along the house last week when out of the corner of my eye I saw something moving. There was 2, 5+ foot black snakes all tangled up doing the black snake mombo! I went to get something to move them into the woods with as I didn't want them in my house or someone run over them in the driveway, but when I got back they were both gone.

Quickie.

Did it rattle at you? I've always wanted to come across one like that. Only rattlers I've seen were dead on road finds

Not at first, but it did when I moved in closer for a better look. Was trying to count his rattles but was having a hard time seeing them. Best I could tell he had about 8 of them. I've lived here over 30 years and this is 4th one I've seen up close and personal. Last one I saw years ago was twice the size of this one and had 14 rattles.
