Weekly snake thread

Nice little rat snake... put him outside and let him help the cat keep down the rodents.
The survivors get walked down to the tree line in front of the creek behind the house. The cat is hell on the little brown snakes though. The only survivors have been rat/black snakes. I haven’t seen any copperheads yet, but my neighbors have reported a few.

This little guy was hiding by my down spout.

Anyone see any Kingsnakes? It's been years since I've seen one. I caught a big one many years ago crossing a road and brought him home and released him in the backyard. The copperhead population declined soon afterwards. :D

Friday afternoon and again yesterday I saw a Black Snake (Black Racer) about 4 feet long. When he spotted me he took off at high speed. I like having him around, I understand he will kill and eat a copperhead.

Not sure if I posted this earlier. Black snake consuming a copperhead about 3' off a train in Durham. Hard to see copperhead, but he's below black snake. They have good camo!
Many many people walked right by it without noticing.

well no pics co you'll have to believe what you want to believe, but you'll understand in a minute why no pic.

driving my departed dad's 2001.5 Dodge Dually to breakfast this morning.
About 5 miles from house, something caught my peripheral vision. and of course OH SHITE....

Gained 'instant' composure and realized 'it' was outside....
Black snake, peeking in the right side windshield. Part of him/it was on passenger side mirror.

Did a couple of swings to see if it would 'slip' but nope...
it was having a 'good' time... it moved to passenger side window to have a different view...

seemed a bit bored, so it went back to windshield ...
part of it was on wiper, and thought about turning them on, but was unsure of if or what it would do.

then it moved again.... across hood towards driver side... at one point was stretched across both wiper arms...
still i though about turning them on, but did not...
Noted about half way down its body something strange, like maybe a burn mark... unsure of this.
with it stretched out would say 3 footer minimum.

it made an about face and moved back to passenger side.......
then disappeared !!

Was almost to destination (southern lunch) ... but was still eying the floorboard just in case...

I've not seen it again, even after running couple of errands on the way home.
Parked it back in same spot in outside open lean-to shed.....

Still i have to wonder just where to hell this damn thing IS...

So I had to drive, so pics were out... and would have taken manipulation to access phone in pocket.

I. Don't. Like. Snakes.

My son saw a 3' long snake with the same head shape and iridescent color as my pet lizard here.
Any guesses?

Had these 2 outside the back porch trying to make babies i presume...they were stopped short and beheaded.
No holes or missing heads. Take pictures after the sons of Satan are DEAD. Kill the shit out of them first like an old western gun fighter.

When i was a kid I saw my dad park a jeep truck on one. Do not let them escape.

They're somewhere in the woods now in the back. After hosing the blood down, hands were wet and phone wasnt close by.

I do not know how but a snake ended up getting nicked by my car in the driveway. Wife went to get in and said that there is a snake next to the passenger side. I went to move him before I knew it was dead. Had a bite or something look a 1/2" out of it side. What kind of snake????? Green with gray or blue like chevrons on its back.

That's 2 pretty pieces of hide to make hatbands out of right there. The hawks around here don't let me make too many hatbands, which is good I guess.

I saw that on another site. The article I read didn't mention the type of snake, but said the guy was fine and needed a couple stitches and antibiotics.

It was non-venomous, but nature has taught it to go for the eye.

looks like an ordinary Black Rat Snake to me. Racers are usually glossier or vice versa. IDK until you see one move, a racer looks just like another black snake to me

Likely can't see eyes but just struck at the closest moving thing. They have very poor eyesight themselves.

Spitting cobras can distinguish heads, and will spray at those, but their eyesight has evolved along with their weapon.

Actually, this made me look up more spitting cobra info, and this is pretty interesting:

Still don't think snake above was aiming for anything but movement and smell though. Just my opinion.

Looks like shes "trying" to enjoy holding it lol

You nailed it...... she was all about touching it when I had it but was a bit unsure about holding it. She decided on her own she wanted to. I was proud of her.
