What are you drinking?

Had to look that one up. Sounds like a possible stomach problem to me. Be careful out there.

But hey, if you can handle a Zima you are certainly man enough. :p
Actually quite the opposite, ginger can soothe an upset stomach.

And I think I still have a couple Zimas in the fridge. Might have one later.....I will admit, Zima isn't near as good as I remember it being when I was a teenager.

Ya lots of things turn out to be a bit disappointing based on memory. Saw a picture of an ex-girlfriend a while back. Damn, that was a close call.

Had three beers at Ghostface Brewing today in Mooresville. Damn. I don't think I can do beer anymore. I must have some adult-onset intolerance to some of the proteins in beer. I'm super congested, feel like dog shit. Had to throw back 50mg of diphenhydramine and my ears still feel plugged.

Anyways, to their credit, two of the three beers were good. Both were IPA's. I had an Irish red too but I didn't like it.

I swear I have the exact same thing but just with IPA's. I must be allergic to whatever it is in them that is higher percentage wise than regular beers or pale ales because I instantly start sneezing after my first sip of an IPA and congestion starts in soon thereafter. Gave them up years ago and every time I try one "just to see" the same damn thing happens.

The wifey brought home a couple quads of this from an event she worked. They have been in the fridge a few weeks and I figured why not. I'm not a beer guy and definitely not a micro brew guy but this stuff from Noda Brewing Co in Charlotte ain't bad...
And it was FREE!

Had one of these Thursday night at the open mike. There was a just a little bit of watermelon flavor at the end of the swallow but it was a refreshing beer.

Nothing. I am swearing that stuff off. For a long time. Or for at least a week. Whichever comes first.
Me too. Part of my strategy to shed a few pounds, and keep them off.

Daughter is getting married soon.... Something old something new, something borrowed something Blue!

Something new tonight... and I like it!!

Not just tonight. Every night. It's ALWAYS something new. What's your favorite? What do you buy by the case? You a bourbon guy or a scotch guy?

Why does it always have to be something new? What's wrong with finding what you like and sticking with it?
(Says the guy who is now in love with peaty scotch thanks to your exploration! LOL!)

No,no...I just post new stuff. The other 3-4 bottles a month just get drunk!

And don't go blaming me for your new found love of Scotch that you can't pronounce! And besides, you were not sure if it was the Scotch or the boobs you were liking that night...

Scotch and boobs, sounds like an awesome night! Texas rig IPA from Southern Pines Brewing earlier and Talisker Scotch now FTW!! Cheers Everyone!!!

Why's it got to be an either or situation? Why not both? LOL!

And yeah, it's your fault.

And since the one you brought me is not sold in NC, from my reading online, I think this is what I need to try next. If it is pretty close I'll stick to it.

Bill, I tell you like a friend and a brother: if you want to drink dirt, that's the Scotch for you. Tried it. Hated it. Gave it away!

See, what happened was......

LOL!

@mj1angier went to Scotland. He brought me back the bottle pictured below.

I'm not a scotch guy, I am a bourbon guy.

Over the years, I have had a couple of scotches I liked ok. Not because I thought they were that good, but because they didn't suck.

Don, @fieldgrade , and @BurnedOutGeek had all tried to explain peaty vs. not peaty. Or warn me anyway.

So, when mj1angier handed me the bottle above, I opened it and took a swig.

My first thought was literally "petroleum product".

My next two drinks were sips instead of swigs. I remember thinking "this sucks but it is an entirely different drinking experience than I've ever had before, and that's kinda cool".

Knowing Burnedoutgeek was a scotch guy, I waited for him to come over and try it. His first response was something to the effect of "that reminds me of siphoning gas".

But a couple of weeks later, a friend of my wife came over, and she and I proceeded to kill the whole bottle. I enjoyed the heck out of it. Now I want more.

Some of those "in the know" however, have put forth the theory that maybe the reason I had so much fun is that my wife's friend that I split the bottle with, drinking straight out the bottle, is super hot and super cool to boot. And that maybe I don't really like that scotch as much as I think I do.

Either way, I'm gonna chase that feeling!

So, I looked up the Ballechin, and, it's not sold in NC.

After reading reviews online, I think the Lagavulin 16 is gonna taste the closest to the Ballechin from what I can get locally.

And questioning my desire to drink dirt? LOL! Come on Don! I'm the guy that eats snapping turtles with raw oyster appetizers. As much as I love the Jeremiah Johnson character, in reality I am Del Gue. I wanna suck the marrow from the earth!

I love Knob Creek so much because it hits hard. I imagine that if I went back in time 200 years and went into a bar the bourbon I would get would taste closer to Knob Creek than any of the "smoother" choices we have today. And I'm starting to think the same of the "peaty" scotches.

You have to keep in mind, long before I presented the rugged (doughy?) exterior of the denim draped redneck who ate the Marlboro Man, I was first and foremost a dork. I'm the geeky kid whose parents weren't into sports, my dad didn't even hunt or fish. We were poor and lived in the woods. Library card was cheap. I would lock myself in my room every summer and read my way through the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, and whatever other Tolkien I could get my hands on. Drove my parents crazy because at 12 years old I would refuse to eat or drink anything that the characters couldn't get in their world. So I had a lot of bread and cheese and unprocessed meats. Honey, water, and for some reason they never would hook me up with ale or mead. @BurnedOutGeek says that nostalgia is my hobby. He's probably right.

So the peaty scotch fits right in for me.

And after reading an article (probably written by a 14 year old blogger whose mom works for Phillip-Morris USA) about some "research" that suggests lower testosterone levels in my generation are a result of not smoking cigarettes like our forefathers, I think I'm gonna keep sucking the marrow from the earth, eating turtles and drinking dirt, partying with my wife's hot friends, and then chasing my wife around the bedroom with my nicotine and peaty scotch fueled boner. I'll die sooner for it, but my kids will understand. After all, the legend of thrillhill will endure and is even now more well respected than the reality.

So @Don , I love and respect you as a friend and brother, and have sought out and benefited from your sage advice many times in the past, and will likely do so again. But this time I am taking a different path and apparently I must walk it alone.

I'm pretty sure those were my exact words. I then proceeded to find anything to get the "flavor" off my tongue. I swear it tasted like half gas and half kerosene or what would happen if my wife ever took the truck to put gas in it. Screw that I'd drop the damn tank in the parking lot and buy a new one before tasting that crap ever again.

Classic! That is the drinking post of the year. And now I feel like a huge loser for having non peaty scothc up here at the cabin for the weekend. I should probably head into town and get some Knob Creek and petroleum based scotch.

Well I ain't gonna give you hell for wanting to drink dirt. I was just trying to warn you. My wife said to tell you that her ancestors are primarily Scots from the Isles and that this is the kind of Scotch they drank. She says it burns the inside of her mouth so bad that she can't drink it however.

So have at it brother. And enjoy! I'll have your back but I'll be sipping a wee dram of the Balvenie...

Had me a smorgesbord earlier..busy day with chores so beer was a must.

AMB, long leaf IPA...yup. my fav IPA.
BOONESHINE IPA. Anothet good un.
Old Hickory death by hops. Good, but more malty than hoppy IMO.
Unknown Brewing IPA. Ive head this before, was notnimpressed this go round for whatever reason.
Stone delicious IPA..,.som not sure what it is with this. Kinda reminds me of the original Ruination IPA, which I loved, but more lemon-y flavor going on. In a word. Awesome.
Parkway Brewing IPA, ehh ok, good, not fantastic.
