What are you drinking?

horrible review on BA but I love it. Great spiced winter ale, IMO.

I know he was a socialist bastard and shafted us with SS...but damn could he win a war.

What am I drinking?

Well, considering I'm at work, it can't be alcoholic. So I'm drinking tea.

Since I quit drinking black tea (might be contributing to the kidney stone episodes I have every 4-5 years), I've taken to green tea instead. But I usually "spice it up" with other herbal teas for added flavor.

Making a gallon at a time, I typically use 10 to 12 bags of Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice or Cinnamon Apple tea and 10 bags of Green Tea.

For those who like sweet tea, these are pretty darn sweet for tea in which no sugar is added.

The mother ship has landed! The Laphroaig Cask Strength is everything I was hoping it would be. I am madly in love.

I've had a bottle of that before too and loved it. Did you find it in state or did you have to order it?

A friend picked it up in SC. South of Charlotte, somewhere barely over the state line.

Tom, where did you find that Quarter Cask?
I believe it was the Select that I brought you. It was either the ABC in Carrboro or Chapel Hill.

That's right. Mickey must have been the one to find the Quarter Cask. Bet he got it in Angier. That Angier ABC store has quite a reputation for having some pretty cool stuff.

Now Pittsboro and Siler City on the other hand, not so much. Get lucky every once in a while in Pittsboro.

I guess if I want something bad enough I could head towards Orange County or Cary.

Think it was Holly Springs ABC

Defiant whiskey, made right here in western NC. Bought it because it is made 45 minutes from my house.

I am not impressed. $40 a bottle can buy a much better drink than this.

Discuss.

I'm likely to hit the ABC in a few days someone has drank most of my Balvenie..... Need to restock. I'll check out the Laphroaig selection and let you know what I see. The big ABC store in Chapel Hill has a good selection of Scotch.

I'm sitting on the front porch, enjoying an excellent read: William Boyd's "Solo", a lightly customized S&W 686SSR on the small glass table beside me....
While I sip on a Western Carolina Sundowner:
Canada Dry Cranberry Ginger Ale
Orange Juice
Sobieski Polish Vodka
Mix to the tolerance of one's liver...

Hey! the revolver's just sitting there....at least I'm not drinking while fondle it (finger on trigger), nor while I clean it(and point it at my cabeza), like these two clowns...

It's a good Saturday afternoon to read, drink and relax after a hectic week.

A couple for tonight. The Bowmore 12 was good so I figured the 15 might be better??

One of my favorites in Charlotte. If you get to Birdsong, try their Jalapeño Pale Ale. Yummy, especially fresh draft!
Most of the bars had that on tap. I didnt try one but I did do one of their IPAs

Got this from a friend last week. It is made in Sperryville, Va.
Not sure about it. Not bad, but almost has a bit of a peat funk to it. It has a lot of going on to get to where it is- apple and oak chips in bourbon barrels....

Finished the Defiant. It actually grew on me and I would probably buy it again.

Had some of that last weekend. Drinkable but not my favorite.

My go to.....Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Back in the mid 90's I was drinking a few too many Henry Weinhard's with Augie Pabst jr. in the servants kitchen of the family mansion up in Oconomowoc. I went back to the fridge for another round and spotted the lone PBR back behind the many cases of pale ale.

I of course had to ask, wtf? He said he wouldn't drink the crap but he figured he should at least have a can of it around..

My beverage of choice tonight is water..

I wasn't a fan. It grew on me a little, too. Just not enough to overcome the price point vs. a decent bourbon.

If I'm drinking bourbon it's Woodford reserve or Buffalo Trace. I also have been known to drink Jim beam black..... When I'm cheap! Lol but I prefer rum

Try Cointreau instead of triple sec, makes a hell of a difference!!!

I’ve been meaning to pick some of that up. I recently got making margaritas and I read that it was better.

Gran Gala is good too and less $, but Cointreau is much better i think.
