Folks,

We've reached the point with my 84 year old Mother in Law that she must use her power wheel chair to get around most all the time. That being said, I need to have a way to easily transport said chair when we take GoodWife's Mother out and about.

I am looking for commercial options to attach a carrier to a standard Class III/IV 2" square receiver hitch. Ideally its light enough for me to take on and off the hitch and has a ramp so that we don't lift the power chair but rather roll it on and off.

Hitches are on the back of the vehicles and I'm also looking at adding a front hitch for the Jeep JK and Nissan Xtera in order to preserve easy tail gate access for loading of groceries, etc. when we have her out shopping.

Looking for experienced input/commentary and if possible, photos of your set up with model numbers, initial cost and perhaps links or company address so I can gather data and compare.

Specific questions also follow:

1. Has anyone used front hitch carriers on the Jeep JK (V6) models and experienced air flow issues that caused overheating?

2. What carrier do you use and is it convenient to use the ramp?

3. Is your carrier light enough that if necessary my Wife could occasionally install and remove it, say 60 lbs and under?

4. Would you please post photos with make/model numbers and perhaps initial cost for the set up you are using to transport a power wheel chair?

Sharps try googleing Rage powersport products. I have the sc500, the sc400 seems to be the one you are looking for. Hope this helps lost...

this type is the easiest to use I've found, the ramps long enough so it's not on a steep incline and once the chair is off it will fold up so it won't be sticking out say if you're parked in a parking lot... If you look around I know you can find them cheaper we just happened to get this one on sale. We found 5 or 6 shortly after we'd got this one on craigslist and market place for $100 or so. So look around they're easy to find. If you want I can keep an eye out for you also as I know it can be a pain.

Have you applied for disabled parking hang tag?

I have some ideas now. Probably narrow it down soon and try one out. Aluminum looks good for weight savings but wide gaps in the ramp stringers may be problematic. Kinda leaning toward the steel mesh and the folding longer ramp to ensure a lower angle when curbs are not available. I don't like the idea of leaving her sitting while we leave the curb to park the truck. Older folks are too easily targeted when left alone.

Harbor freight sells one just like northern tool does except the half or friend one is $169. Like you mention, the wide gaps are a pain. But I bought the one I have for dad to put in the back of his tractor to tote his generator with.
